Yeah, they got it wrong too. Far too much optimism in that article. Thinking we'd sign two 'quality' players, what foolishness is this?

We need at least 7 players in the summer. Two will simply not cut it. That is also 7 first team players, not a bunch of kids for the development squad.

We need a CB, a left back [Santon isn't a left back, Dummett and Haidara don't convince as yet], a creative midfielder to play alongside Tiote, TWO strikers at least [not donkeys but goalscorers] and if we're keeping Frank Spencer as manager and he persists with his failed 4-4-2 then we need TWO wingers with pace who can cross a ****ing ball and take a corner.

We need to get rid of Shola, Obertan and Gosling. Marveaux and HBA - enigmas the pair of them.

Richards would be a good signing but not as a RB...looks much more comfortable at CB rather than RB. Would also be nice to have a defender with natural raw pace for the first time in our history <laugh>

If we don't buy two proper strikers and reinforce in other sreas in the summer we will get relegated next season - not even a raid in January will save us as we will be most likely too far adrift by then.

I can't decide on Richards. He has looked well dodgy defensively at times. A bit thick. However I am sure Alan would coax a bit extra out of him <laugh>

To be honest whereas I have not always been keen on him as signing, we couldn't have half done with his commitment and boundless energy of late. I bet he wouldn't have downed tools like an absolute ****.

Now come on BRS, you know we won't be buying two strikers. We'll replace Remy and that will be business done. This will leave us well stocked. New striker, Cisse, Shola (once he gets his new contract after leading Nigeria to the world cup), Sammy, Armstrong, Campbell. Actually that's 6, we don't need to replace Remy.

I want to disagree but this will probably happen but I reckon Cisse will leave. So that means Shola would get a promotion. Christ the very thought makes me want to vomit blood.

Shola can't stay another season can he? I mean he can't, he just can't. We couldn't possibly give him a new contract. If that happened it would truly confirm how ****ed we are for next season.

He seems to have had a charmed life so far, almost every season we have something on a similar line about Shola and he's still here.

Must be something he can offer, off the field.

I wish he really would turn into a Frank Spencer - the man everyone thought was a joke and one-trick pony and then somehow turned into one of the most successful theatre performers in the world. Finding out he could really act and sing was a bit like finding out Oz could sing....or a bit like it will feel when AP finally leads us to glory and shows the world that I was right all along to keep the faith! <whistle>

    They've even made a,

    SHOLA

    ANTI-MACKEM

    T-SHIRT.

Selling them at the Back Page.

Don't know if he'll be on some kind of commission with them.

    Here's the master piece.

They'll probably sell like hot cakes, or Greggs pies anyway.

Some loonies on Totalsport are saying that Colback will sign on a free at the end of the season.

Utter **** and may they burn in the fires of hell for suggesting such bullshit.

Sunderland are facing a huge battle to keep a clutch of their Capital One Cup heroes.

Jack Colback, Phil Bardsley, Craig Gardner and Seb Larsson are all involved in contract disputes going into the final weeks of the season.

All four, who played in Sunday's gallant League Cup final defeat against Manchester City, are out of contract at the end of the season, but are yet to agree extensions.

Bardsley and Colback have opened talks regarding extensions, but have made it clear they are not prepared to re-sign on the terms offered.

It is understood talks with Larsson and Gardner are yet to get underway, leaving the duo unsure of their futures.

Sunderland's precarious top-flight status is believed to be a key factor in the north-east club's tentative approach to re-negotiating existing player contracts.

The club will be forced to reduce their playing budget next season should they suffer relegation, something that will have an impact on the size of contracts.

With the Wembley showpiece out of the way, Sunderland will hold further discussions with their out-of-contract stars - but there are no guarantees the quartet will stay.

Not looking good for Sunderland, players wanting away and new players wont be attracted to the club playing in the Championship and with a pay freeze.

To be fair to them, I'm not sure too many tears would be shed down the road if they lost all four of these. The only one I'd even want us to think about would be Colback - but only cos he was free - and only as a back-up player to strengthen the squad. When he's good he's very good......etc

I would take Colback for free.
    Decent player on his day.

Was he a Toon fan as a youngster?

After Bruce, O'Neill, Di Canio and Poyet, I'm sure he would appreciate and feel blessed to be working with you.
You'd sharp get his mind in the right place.
