The brief club statement sounds as though there is a lot left unsaid. Call me old-fashioned, but after the achievements of the first half of the season I'd expect a little more appreciation unless there had been a serious falling out.

I love the quotes: "Ray Wilkins, who as assistant to Gianluca Vialli at Vicarage Road had a close-up view of what remarkable underachievement looks like..." and "[the Pozzos] appear to know more about successful management than Ray Wilkins".

Of course, he has personal experience (and not just a close-up view) of remarkable underachievement in his own managerial "career".

A good article from a source of usually interesting journalism which may not exist much longer as a broadsheet, more's the pity. It's of course true that there's no room for sentiment in football management, though I'm old enough still to feel individuals could be treated with more generosity (in terms of what's said about them rather than financially). Let's hope the article's author is right in his belief that a different individual can be both radical and successful in evolving the complex group that is a football team.

I wonder why he thinks he's qualified to make such a statement. To me, he's just another example of a self-important idiot who thinks that small clubs have no right to be in the elite league - and, now that we're there, we should only ever put up with mediocrity and be thankful for it.

Just a thought - after Udinese's abysmal end to the season, losing at home to relegated Carpi and avoiding relegation by a solitary point, I wonder if QSF could be off there to sort out out their defence/
