He made it clear in the second half that every bit of contact was a foul so for me it was good old consistency.
Not the first time or last Frey will get nothing from referees. Guilty of being built like a fridge so he’s fair game. But he dished out a lot too and I was terrified throughout he’d get a second yellow. Quite possibly would have done had Chakvetadze gone down when he pulled him back.
If we can continue playing that that then the rest of the season should be pleasant. I would like to see Kolli play alongside Frey, that could be an interesting pairing.
Unfortunately due to our Sky overlords sodding around with kick off times, this one coincided with lunch in Funchal old town and if I'd looked at the phone for updates I'd have been dead meat..... so just catching up now..... Fabulous read from start to finish this thread..... sounds like the perfect performance and the sort of result we should have had at their place..... well done lads.... For those interested lunch consiste of fish pulled straight from the sea, local wine and lovely deserts, all for less than €100 and in a very pleasant 19 degrees of warmth...... A lovely way to spend the day...... Happy New Year lads and lasses......
Totally agree, however much I love Dunne he is not a RB, and it was so clear today what a decent RB brings to the party. Ashby has improved game on game. Only concern is we have brought a CB in on loan, is that so Dunne can move Back to RB, doesn't make any sense?
Highlights https://www.skysports.com/football/...k-rangers-3-1-watford-championship-highlights Their keeper really is crap. Also, why do people on a 90 minute train journey need to stuff their faces with stinking fast food, apparently with an added side order of hot trans fat?
Just got back, glad to get my soaking jeans off, probably should have waited until I got off the tube at Finsbury Park. Despite being cold and wet and in the front row in the upper loft, rained on all afternoon that was a pleasant afternoon I’ve been a critic of Smyth but for me motm today, he never stopped, could have been 6-4 with all the chances but I think we deserved the 3 points even though it wasn’t until 90 mins on the board twatford tried to play it wide and put in into touch did I think, “you’re everywhere and nowhere baby”.
Five weeks ago (23/11) we drew 1-1 with Stoke and were bottom of the table. Since then we've lost just once in 10 games, are currently 15th in the table, ten points from bottom spot and six clear of relegation places. Thankfully the board held their nerve whilst other teams around us were sacking managers. Marti may not be the messiah to some, but he's stopped the rot by reverting to more pragmatic football with the players he has at his disposal. Was good to see Frey start today, with Colback and JCS also getting run-outs. Just a pity about Cook and Morrison, but the acquisition of Edwards that may help short-term.
Frey made a big difference. We actually had a target man and he made himself a real nuisance to the Watford defense.
Just a few things: As the free kick was played down the line for the first goal my only thought was "what a waste", then I realised Morgan was chasing it and not Anderson/Madson etc. A little pace, dedication and desire and the balls at Freys feet for the goal. I'm really enjoying watching Morgan cement his place in this team. Smyth has been immense in our change of fortune, as well as speed he has now got composure and is putting some decent crosses in. If Chair had put in a performance like that we'd be arguing over how many millions he was now worth. Ashby is improving a lot, possibly because he's actually playing in his correct position. Still terrifies me pissing about in our own third. As for Dunne, right back/centre back I dont care where he's played but for me he's the first on the team sheet. Another huge performance. Really pleased Field scored again, he does miss some sitters but never gives up and keeps getting in those positions.
