Must say, you've seen them given. Amos shouldn't have given the ref a decision to make and although I thought the Watford player was looking for it, it was nice to have a decision go our way. Massive win.
Great win for you guys yesterday If we lose on Tuesday to Millwall, we will drop below you as our sole win was the first of the 6 matches in the current form table.
The thing you see with GA is he doesn’t manage the squad, he manages each individual player. There was an interesting interview posted by 9’s (post #42 on this thread). GA talks about the squad ‘knowing’ each other properly, down to names of wives and girlfriends. Also interesting insight into players bonuses linked to kpi’s on individual performance that he had at Wycombe, which was an interesting approach I hadn’t heard of - makes total sense to me. You can see he’s a leader and it will be interesting to see how he takes that deeper into the club. We had three academy players on the pitch yesterday, so it’s possible. It was important getting that clean sheet too. Some interesting stats from the game on the sky page that I hadn’t seen before (https://www.skysports.com/football/queens-park-rangers-vs-watford/report/468250) where you can click on each player and see their stats for the game. Mixed bag and not a time to highlight any of the poorer ones. But the defenders did well and Chris Martins were interesting too.
He's full of enthusiasm and even when he misplaces a pass or gets caught out of position, his head doesn't go down. It's pure encouragement from the sidelines. The set up suited us and I know that yourself was calling it a while ago. The wing back positions need energy, fitness and enthusiasm. Kakay and Drewe both showed that yesterday. You don't have to even be the best crosser of the ball as long as you're planting it in the area. I thought Field slotted in perfectly aswell, able to read the midfield play from a view further back in the defence. Well done to Gareth and Dobson. It won't work every week but it's a big stepping stone towards a balanced set up.
The crowd played a massive part for Drewe yesterday. Being at home, the support, the praise only encouraged him more. I always feel that if you're going to blood a young kid then the home crowd always helps their confidence.
Yep, well done to Gareth and the other coaches for dropping Field back in there, who apparently played brilliantly. Dickie and Dunne will always be more secure in a three imo.
The big difference to yesterday and Rotherham was all about the width. We were playing balls in from angles rather than straight from the centre backs. Any defender will tell you they are much harder to defend, always looking over your shoulder rather than staring at a direct ball.
Why isn’t it time to comment on individuals? The passing accuracy was poor especially from the back 3 and Drewe (less than 40%!). Our overall season average of 77% accuracy is of course inflated by the habit of endless short square passes at the back which we might be stopping now, but no Championship team averages less than 65% accuracy, yesterday our overall figure was 51% - if you are going to give the ball away easily you have to be ****ing good at winning it back, and that’s a tiring game to play. That said if we keep on winning who cares.
Pointless analysing this. We need wins, however ugly. Simple as. You've been lamenting the lack of fight within the squad for months. Well yesterday that fight was there. It's a start.
I was wondering with the long ball stuff how midfield would be bypassed...I actually thought Tim and Jamal saw more of the ball than ever before...there is the theory that Watford were so bad they gave us the points, who cares at this stage though
Agreed. I guess, Sb, I was saying let’s celebrate winning and three points. The deeper analysis can come later. Of course there’s time to critique, but after a grim few months there’s a time to allow us to enjoy yesterday. Come on u Rrrrs.
