For me it’s just one of those results. A game that will fade from our memories very quickly. I won’t moan at the team because they have done really well of late and you can’t win every game. As others have said Swansea were a horrible lot who just seemed to pull or foul our players at every opportunity. We did lack quality in the final third and our crossing was awful. Swans didn’t really look like scoring and spent most of the game passing around their keeper. Dykes… mmm I made it clear a long time ago that I don’t rate him… he runs around but for me doesn’t have a killer instinct (like last night). He takes a great pen though! It also doesn’t help when he is lacking in confidence. Hopefully a goal Saturday may be the start of better things . Saturday… is a must win. Reading are shocking and I don’t want us dropping more points at home. Onwards and upwards! You R’s!
Confucius also say, “ man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day” And Confucius also say “seven days in bed make hole week”
You missed the best bit, which was Swansea fans throwing a flare onto the pitch when they thought they had scored, only for it to be ruled offisde. What a dreadfully boring game. Swansea were playing for a draw early on - at least through keeping the ball rather than through the dark arts (mostly) - and we just didn't quite have the pace to make them uncomfortable. Austin should never have started that game imo, given we needed to chase and chase and force them into mistakes. For all his inadequacies [see missed golden chance to win the game] I think Dykes would have created a lot more room for Willock and the other midfielders to do more damage. Gutted for Amos who I've defended on here previously. So close to the winner!
Austin was getting stick from their fans and fouls from their team throughout. He plays up to the role of pantomime villain - but that doesn’t mean they can beat him up.
Whenever I hear myself think “if we win this game we go…. “ in this case third, we don’t win. At least we didn’t lose. A bit chilly last night
A very disappointing game, we lacked creativity and offered little up front. We were fortunate Swansea were so lacking a cutting edge, I was fearing they might nick it and luckily the linesman got the call spot-on when it mattered. We are seriously missing Chair to make something happen, Willock does as well and never really got into the game after he took a knock in the 1st half. Subs were too late to make a real difference and I don't know what the Jocks did to Dykes but he's looking like he did in his last goal drought, a shadow of himself earlier this season. 4 wins and a draw from 5 is a helluva return playing below our best but can we keep it going as Morocco and Senegal progress in the ACON? We've got ourselves into such a good position it'd be such a shame to fall away now. I don't think Reading will be a pushover despite their position, they're scoring freely so we need to as well...
A colleague who is a Southampton fan was asking after Charlie the other day. Turns out he was very similar when he was there, virtually immobile, mouthy, winding up the opposition and opposition fans, scoring the odd goal. They loved him of course.
Can't recall if I've shared this before but I think the striker / goalie is like predator / prey which might explain why strikers so often shoot at the goalie rather than peripherally. A lion who pounces 1.5m either side of her prey stays hungry!
I'm a little worried about our results playing teams at home whose names begin with S. We couldn't score against Sunderland, Stoke or Swansea. We've still got to play Sheffield United at home yet!
Jocks didn't do it to him, we did. Should never have released him to play when he was already carrying an injury. We've done the same with Chair and Morocco, he's only plated I'm the one match and came off after 31 minutes ! Let's see what sort of player comes back when it's finished.
