I reckon you could take a chunk of fans from any team and get exactly the same comments about pretty much any other team. There’s ignorance everywhere. After seeing our performances over the past year, I can quite appreciate how anyone might question why we would go to watch QPR. Like every fan, perhaps with the exception of those going to see some of the top premiership teams, your given team is somehow embedded, you are emotionally invested and are generally powerless to walk away. It’s why the Stadium of Light would still roar when Fleetwood were in town a few years back and it’s why Loftus Rd will still fill up against Sunderland when that team is bossing the league and we’ve won once at home in a year. I would question that if these lads cannot appreciate that and it doesn’t resonate with how they feel about their team, are they true (Sunderland) fans themselves or just attention seeking cretins with a YouTube account?
Great Post and summarises so well what it means to be a fan. I know a few folk who supported the likes of West Ham and Man U who are now Bees fans because they happen to live near there. I'm afraid that doesn't work for me at all. You could move anywhere in the world and I'd still be QPR through and through. I will concede that I might go and watch the local team if I was unable to get to QPR games due to geography but that's as far as it could go.
Totally...when I moved to Scotland my allegiance to QPR never wavered, and I've instilled this in my son too even though he's only been to one game. I go and watch my local team, Greenock Morton, who are equally as ****e as we are and also wear blue and white hoops but I have nowhere near the same passion for them as I do QPR.
I have absolutely no connection to London or west London in particular. Born and bred in Leeds. I saw the name Queen's Park Rangers on the Grandstand vidiprinter results when I was 7 years old and I've supported them ever since. Get down to loftus rd at least twice a season and go to many away games. My lad who is now 18 has followed in my footsteps. We could never support anyone else and I have apologised to him countless times for this.
It's funny what random things make us support one club or another. When I was a kid, I was given a Subbuteo set with the Wolves team of that day. A bullet dodged!
