Match Preview;
Firstly, Happy New Year one and all. Hope everyone had a good one. I mentioned on the match day thread, I missed yesterday's match completely. Just watched the highlights and it seems a last minute smack from Mbengue was the only thing to cheer about. Otherwise we seem to be playing such negative, defensive and backward facing football at the moment. I can't put my finger on what has changed since our winning run, but the free flowing attacking football we were enjoying seems to have vanished. We had, previous to yesterday, won four in a row at home, but lost two and drew our last three away games. That run, since the beginning of December, leaves us 12th in the table on 35 points, so 5 points from the playoffs.
As for our visitors, Sheffield Wednesday have had a season to forget so far. They've played 24, lost 15, drawn 8 and won just 1 game...a 0-2 win over Portsmouth back in September. Their top scorers are Barry Bannan and Charlie McNeil, with 3 goals each...they've scored only 18 in total so far, the lowest tally of any club in the Championship by a margin of 3 goals, and they've conceded 48, the most conceded by a margin of 9 goals. Their manager, Henrik Pedersen, was the assistant under Danny Röhl, but took over in the summer when Röhl left for Rangers. It has been a tricky step up for Pedersen so far, and the club look destined to drop to League One unless the second half of the season sees a vast improvement. They lost 3-0 to Preston yesterday, so they're in an awful run, they'll be playing two away games in four days, we'll be playing two games at home, which has to play to our advantage. Of course, as I write this, I'm slightly concerned that the aptly named Charity Park Rangers will show up on Sunday, and help them...but surely this is a game we have to go all out for the win as they will be there for the taking.
Julien Stefan has already said that we were 'not good enough' yesterday, and then went on to say;
“In this league, all the games are tough,” he said.
“It will be the fourth in nine games. Mentally, we need to find a solution in order to be ready on Sunday.
“It’s more mental than tactical or technical because we have only two days to prepare. We must find the good words with the players in order to support them and give them the confidence that they need to play on Sunday.”
Any further team news or manager comments to go up closer to the game, enjoy if you'll be at HQ on Sunday, and as always...
...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
