Preview;
Sheffield Wednesday have had a mixed start to the season, winning 3 and losing 2, losing 2-1 to Preston in their latest match. They are in 7th, with 9 points, so 2 points and 5 places above us. A win will see us surely move up the table towards the top six, and, more importantly, will leave us on a positive note before a two week break for international matches.

From the official;

Despite Steve Bruce’s unexpected departure in the summer, Sheffield Wednesday have made a positive start to the league season, with former defender Lee Bullen taking the managerial reins on a caretaker basis once again.

Wednesday head into Saturday’s fixture with the R’s, with the aim of building on their undefeated start made at Hillsborough, being victorious in the two opening home games they have faced so far this season.

QPR manager Mark Warburton says he's looking for a strong reaction from his players in Saturday's game against Sheffield Wednesday following Wednesday night's Carabao Cup defeat to Portsmouth.

In what's been a jam-packed run of fixtures, Warburton says he'll look to again rotate his squad ahead of what's set to be a tough encounter at Hillsborough.

A point would be an excellent result.

For me, Warburton makes too many changes too often. I know it's early days but I'd like him to focus in on his chosen squad very soon, aside from injury issues.

For this game, I'm not sure what they benefit would be in going to defensive. If we try and defend all day long and don't dedicate much to attack, we're gonna end up regretting it.

Therefore, we really need to have a go at them in midfield and whoever is up front needs to be at their best. We need to take away their opportunities for attacking us by having a go at them. Easier said than done, though.

Hugill Must start. I think Chair has earned a start, along with Eze (who was obviously rested in the cup). Who should be that fourth attacker? Wells? BOS?

I thought Matt Smith actually showed some quality against Portsmouth but the whole midfield got lost in the second half. Maybe he can start with Scowen whilst we wait for Cameron to return.

Has anyone thought it could be a decent idea to let Hall start as defensive midfielder? That worked well previously.

Hall has to start as CB for me all day long. We have enough midfielders to cover all positions.

Peter was in goal for the R's when I was first taken to games by my father, he was off course part of that famous League Cup winning side. There was then the very strange transfer when it was decided that Ron & Peter would swap clubs in the summer of 1967 by which time Ron was in the twilight of his career. Unfortunately for Peter he was in goal for them when the R's put 8 past Wednesday in the League Cup game you mention above.......

Early days, but I also wonder whether Warbs is a bit of a tinkerman.

Time will tell, but I hope he's not.
Rarely a good outcome at this level imo.

These days it is a squad game and players need game time so in a way i can understand why changes are made although the 6 made against Wigan was maybe a tad excessive. However the counter argument is what McClaren did last season and play the same 14 players game after game until they had nothing left after New Year..........

Who'd be a manager eh?

It's got to be about balance, and I reckon Warburton is still trying to get the balance right between getting the best starting 11, and giving players a break when needed...but surely none of the players already need a break in August! Unlikely that any player will last all 46 games in a season + cup games, so I guess it is good to have back ups who are ready, and who have already got a few games under their belts.

August has been a frantic month of eight matches for Queens Park Rangers (just the three in September, mental this league, proper batshit) and as we prepare for the last of those at Sheffield Wednesday, just exactly what sort of a team we’ve got for ourselves this season is starting to crystallise a little bit.

The club, by its own admission, felt the squad needed a hand grenade to be thrown in over the summer. In all, 16 players departed either permanently or on loan (Freeman, Furlong, Luongo, Lynch, Smyth, Wheeler, Baptiste, Cousins, Bidwell, Goss, Smith, Ingram, Dieng, Hamalainen, Wszolek and Hemed) and nearly that many have arrived, albeit Nahki Wells, Angel Rangel and Geoff Cameron were all here on different deals last season (Barbet, Masterson, Amos, Ball, Wallace, Pugh, Kane, Smith, Cameron, Wells, Mlakar, Rangel, Hugill, Barnes, Kelly). That’s not only incredibly difficult to do in one summer, but it makes predicting how the team will do, or even what it might look like on the field, incredibly difficult. Even what we’re seeing now, just seven matches in, probably won’t be what we see three months down the line when things have started to bed in.

It’s interesting to see how MW uses the squad. I’m not a big fan of constant tinkering, but do believe there is a balance to be had when young players need a rest or an injury needs replacing. But not wholesale changes every/every other match - we need a team that know one another.
The squad put together by MW, et al, showed us we have good cover across positions (if varying skill levels). So wise changes only please, where people can slot in, and know their roles.
Strangely, or perversely, looking forward to today’s game to see what we are made of away to a reasonable team.
Though I think September will tell us much more about our squad, with hopefully positive results coming our way.
C’mon u Rrrrrrrrssssss!!!!

A very good analysis of our current situation and our strengths and current weaknesses, or more precisely, areas to improve.

With only three competitive matches in September, thus much time for training and coaching, it will be interesting to see how we shape up in October.
