QPR welcome Sheffield United to Loftus Road

QUEENS PARK RANGERS first home game of the season at Loftus Road will take place on Saturday against Sheffield United.

Rangers were victorious in the meeting here last season, winning 1-0 thanks to an early Idrissa Sylla strike.

The R’s will be hoping to get their first points on the board following a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Preston last week.

QPR’s home form last season was excellent, with 12 of our 15 overall victories coming at Loftus Road.

Sheffield United are likely to provide a stern test for the R’s. Chris Wilder’s side just missed out on the play-offs last campaign despite being in a strong position for most of the year.

They have strengthened their squad over the summer with the additions of John Egan from Brentford, Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United and Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool.

The Blades last tasted victory over Rangers at Loftus Road back in January 2015, where they were convincing 3-0 winners in the FA Cup Third Round.

Thanks for a different and fresh format. :)

I like the idea of the historical film. Any idea when and where the match was played?

I sent a quick note to the Club to inform them it will also be shown live in Poland on Eleven Sports 3. I even got a quick reply that it has been passed to the Media department.

I doubt that there is a massive audience in Poland for the match, but I am sure that it is more than Kyrgyzstan or Tajikistan, as my son and I will be watching. :)

p.s. no offense meant to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. I am sure that they are great countries and wonderful people! :)

I don't find our game listed for showing in Norway tomorrow though it is listed as so by the Club. Hope the TV listing just needs updating!

Ski, it's from a 4th Round FA Cup tie played at Loftus Road in March 1923, we lost 1-0 hopefully not an omen for tomorrow. Interestingly that was the year that the Cup Final was first played at Wembley when around 200,000 people crammed into the ground and the final became known as "The White Horse Final" as a White Police Horse helped clear the pitch.

The picture shown is from the Valley where Bolton beat Charlton 1-0 and went on to reach the final and beat West Ham 2-0.......

Googlestan will be proud.....<laugh>

EDIT: The 4th Round proper was actually the Quarter Finals at that time.....

I was surprised that Poland was missing on the Offy relase, although sometimes Eleven Sports with three channels in Poland does not show a Championship match even when avalaible (due to the alternative offerings). That promoted me to check the programme listings for Saturday afetrnoon and was pleased to find it on the third and final channel!

I hope that you get to watch it!

I am very impressed with your knowledge! :)

I can understand the photo being from the Valley.

But it is very difficult to recognise anything of Loftus Road. The surrounding buildings are very unfamiliar.

This is one of the oldest photo's I can find from around 1910...

The building on the left are from the Franco - British Exhibition in 1908, this is where the White City Housing Estate is situated. Ellerslie Road School is in the foreground with the same familiar roads of Ellerslie Road and Loftus Road. South Africa Road follows the path to the left of the ground.
