Match Preview;
Our opponents in the League Cup, Oxford United, have spent the last five seasons in League One, and after an impressive 8th place finish in their first year in the division, have progressed by finishing 16th, 12th, 4th (losing to Wycombe in the playoffs final) and then last season, 6th (losing to Blackpool in the playoffs first round). Matty Taylor has been their top scorer the last two seasons, scoring 17 in the 19/20 season, and then 13 last season. Surely they'll be hoping for a bit more this year, and promotion either automatically, or through the playoffs.
As for us, after a decent start to the season, our squad is suddenly looking thin. Sam Field is out for the foreseeable future, Dykes was out at the weekend, Austin looked like he was carrying a niggle, Lee Wallace was out and Moses Odubajo was suspended (does that count in the league cup too?). All in all, as has been said already, this game screams of a chance to play some of the youngsters and give them a chance to get some match practice. After George Thomas and Andre Dozzell were subbed off on 35 minutes, I'd like to see them given some game time, hopefully to restore some confidence.
Team News:
QPR: Luke Amos, Sam Field and Charlie Owens will all miss out for the R’s, whilst Lyndon Dykes and Sam McCallum will look for a return following illness.
Oxford: Jamie Hanson, Sam Long, Billy Bodin, James Henry and Ryan Williams may still be side lined.
Pre-match talk:
Mark Warburton (QPR Manager): “They’re a team who like to play good football and have a nice blend of youth and experience.
“They’ll pose a threat and can hurt teams when given the time and space. We have to deny them of it.
“But we’re always confident of winning games. The players I’ll put out for the game wouldn’t be in the squad unless they were good enough. Plain and simple.”
Karl Robinson (Oxford Manager): “QPR are my London team and always a club I look forward to going to. Loftus Road has a great feel about it, a ground built up the right way. I have been lucky enough to have some good results there so it’s a game I can’t wait for.
COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!!
