Match Preview;
So we are back, back to competitive football, back to having fans in the stadium, back to see what this squad that Warburton has assembled can achieve. With our nine summer signings, Andre Dozzell, Stefan Johansen, Moses Obudajo, Chalie Austin, Jordan Archer, Jordy De Wijs, Sam Field, Sam McCallum, Jimmy Dunne and the return of Bonne and Shodipo from loan spells, Warburton has managed to gather together a decent looking squad, on paper, for the season ahead. With it being reported that Warburton is on the verge of signing a new contract extension, he is clearly ambitious about what he can achieve, and is aiming for promotion this year. I'll reserve judgement until we are 10/15 games into the season until I decide about promotion. So much depends on if the team gels, how long it takes for them to gel, and key players remaining injury free. I know others disagree, but I'd rather another season in the Championship to ensure we go up ready to be competitive, as opposed to a premature promotion, resulting in a disappointing season and coming back down. You can discuss thoughts on this below, and give your opinions in the poll.

Our opposition, Millwall, have signed Scott Malone, George Long, George Saville, Daniel Ballard and Benik Afobe, to add to a squad that finished 11th last year, two places and six points behind us. Gary Rowett will be hoping that Millwall can improve on last year, and potentially get closer to the playoffs. As was posted by 999's, in a video, on page 7 of the Leicester game thread, Millwall can clearly play some decent football. Here's hoping that was a minute of magic which they can't maintain.

Mark Warburton (QPR manager): “We have waited over 18 months to have football as we know it – to have a packed stadium for a London derby on the first day of the season is magnificent. We want to deliver a good performance and make sure the fans are happy.”

Gary Rowett (Millwall manager): “Both teams are going to be desperate to win the first game, both sets of fans will be desperate for that, some players may react slightly different but we have to control our emotion and remain focused on the game.”

I admit that I am looking forward to the new season.

With the Euro and Olympics, plus Roland Garros and Wimbledon, the summer passed remarkably quickly.

This match is being screened on QPR+ for oversea fans and I am looking forward to it.

Hopefully we start the season with a comfortable win.

Voted 2nd. I have a 72/73 season feeling.

The Official App news section seems to be dominated by a series of apologies for the Recast service. I hope they sort these glitches out for the faithful. Getting a refund doesn’t really cut it when you want to see the match.

I have been an "R" since 1979 and I have known Mrs Maple since 1984. I am happy for the way that turned out - had I met Mrs Maple prior to 1980 I would have been expected to follow the family tradition and be a West Ham supporter. But that was not going to happen since I am an awkward *** and would have chosen another club in E London just to be different. Didn't know Charlton existed so I would have likely ended up Millwall.

A lucky break and I am now an R through and through

It will be a nervy start but I’m feeling a positive start is on the horizon. A chance for us to lay down our mark to the start of the season.
Looking forward to seeing how we perform and it’s great to start with a heightened optimism.
Come on boys!!! Let’s build that form!

How amazing was it to be a part of that first full season with Warnock, where we started the season with a quite a few high scoring wins. I seem to remember several 3-0 wins with one or two 4-0 wins. We truly came out of the blocks like lightening. I would love to see something like that again.

The Stewart Arms is a great boozer to meet up in. It's a fifteen minute walk to the ground but is hassle free. Hardly no football fans meet in there W11 4TR

Otherwise I'm happy to meet-up in the usual pubs. The Crown & Sceptre, The Bull and the Collingham etc
