Match Preview;
This Saturday we welcome Leicester City to Loftus Road, and their manager can come too...although if he'll be welcome or not remains to be seen. After relegation in 2023, promotion in 2024 (winning the league with 97 points), then relegation again in 2025, Leicester were surely hoping for another immediate return to the top flight, but it is proving trickier this time round. They currently sit only one place above us, in 8th, and only on goal difference. Their top scorer is Jordan James, with 5 goals, followed by Fatawa Issahaku, Jordan Ayew and Bobby de Cordova-Reid who have four each. They have a good squad, with experience in the form of Harry Winks, Asmir Begovic and formerly mentioned Jordan Ayew...and most of their players are in their mid-twenties, so they could play together for many years to come.
As for us, I watched the Boro game and felt they took their chances and we didn't...and before we knew it we were 3-0 down and chasing straws. I know we were away from home, against a good side, so I do understand the slightly more defensive set up, but we seem to invite a lot of pressure on ourselves in the hope that when opposition attacks breaks down we can use the pace of Saito, Burrell, Smyth and Kone to hit teams on the break...but all too often that plan is undone either by teams working it out and not pushing too far forward, or a misplaced pass by us which just leaves us exposed. It was a frustrating watch so I'll be hoping for some more cutting edge in the final third and some decent finishing to get the goals we need to win games. We are still only three points from the playoffs, so a huge amount to play for...but then again, so are Leicester, which could make Saturday a very feisty encounter with two teams desperate for the three points to move us onwards and upwards!
Team news and managers comments to go up when on the official, enjoy if you'll make it to HQ on Saturday, and as always...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
P.S - when Marti left us, and even when he joined Leicester, bet he didn't think he'd be back six months later level on points...yet another to add to my list of players/managers who saw the bright lights of big success and went running only to find they might have been better off staying put. What sort of reception do you think he'll get on Saturday? Discuss.[/B][/B]
