Last game of my 3 game week. Some serious mileage and some very abject performances to put up with. With our 3 midfielders out Field, Varane and Chair, only 1 fit "striker" a left back that wont tackle, and evidently the only player who looks like scoring/creating something playing at Right Back not very confident! Ronnie moved into midfield late on against Boro and would prefer to see that that watching Colback waddle around the pitch. 1st visit to HQ since watching a screening of Oldham away in play off match!

Assuming no Varane I’d stodge it up with Chopper Colback, Edwards and Morgan in midfield ahead of Cook and Morrison but the thought of Cook and Colback’s creaking joints against their attack is somewhat terrifying.

I think the thing we're missing most is Sam Field. He is monumental in our team.

He constantly provides a way to pass out from the back for the defensive line and he does that well. He breaks up play in the midfield. He gets the ball rolling when we are trying to attack or counter. I think a lot of what he does goes unnoticed.

I also wouldn't mind seeing some of the experience of Anderson. I'd genuinely rather see him than Chair who has bags of ability but no footballing brain.

However, Anderson doesn't have the legs. So maybe start him and take him off early 2nd half or bring him on 2nd half. But give him a role where he doesn't have to have the most mobility.

Actually, Anderson and Field have a similarity, when Field occasionally gets pushed forward. They both have vision and see movement of other players, and can see small gaps opening to charge into themselves.

When is Field due back? Until then, I'd be trying to use Anderson where possible to just break up opposition defensive lines. All we currently do is get Chair skip and frolick about around their area with no actual penetration. Dembele is more or less the same, but perhaps worse.

Smyth is effective in breaking through, as is Saito, because they actually have a pair of balls each and are willing to charge defenders down. However, they require the ball to be moved quicker from our half into the opposition half. And we are so slow without Field and with Chair slowing things down.

Possibly Morriston and Fox in as CBs, Colback was dire at Boro, Morgan not much better, so not sure what Marti will do in that department.

Would gladly **** Colback off for the rest of the season but feel a bit for Morgan having to carry the midfield at his age and experience.

I reckon Walking Football Jesus will get a start after his vaguely competent sub appearance on Tuesday. Dembele perhaps too but I’ve not seen him do anything to warrant it.
