Hodgson has City well organised in the 'modern' way and it looked like two teams cloned from the same source right from my the start. Our wing play made us slightly more threatening but it was a marginal advantage and 0-0 was always nailed on. The manager needs to be more adventurous when faced with this situation. If such a tedious game can have a MotM it was probably RND for us IMO.
I also thought RND had another good Motm game.

Yeah, I thought he did ok and he seemed to be coming off his line to deal with crosses more than he has previously. A bit much to to be slagging your keeper when he's kept a clean sheet.
I actually think Walsh is maturing into a decent keeper. Sure he had a dodgy start perhaps he needed time to settle. I loved the way he came out of his area in certain situations.
It is no coincidence that the back four have looked far more settled in recent weeks, that gives any goalkeeper more confidence to play behind and conversely the defenders are showing more confidence in him.
It just takes a little patience to fall into place. And, I would like to see him as our No. 1 next season.

R.e. Walsh, I feel his reaction time is a little slow compared to other keepers.

He also gets a bit confused when a lot is going on in the box.

And I often feel he should catch the ball when he's punched it or parried it away.

He's not a terrible keeper. But he can be a liability at times. At other times, he does some really good things.

I feel that we'd have potentially 10 or more points on the board had Nardi been in goal.

Can Walsh develop? Sure. Will his reaction time ever get faster? No.

Surely, Nardi will be leaving us this summer as the problem seems to be a clash of personalities. And it's no good in him collecting wages for nothing.

I'd say we need 1 or 2 new trustworthy keepers this summer. If we get a really good new keeper and have Walsh as second choice, that could be somewhat acceptable. But I'd rather he be out third and have two proven keepers in front of him.

Awjm,
It's clear you do not like Walsh as many of your posts has either a direct or indirect pop at him, and I can only think he has personally offended you. But, of course, you are entitled to your opinion.
As good as Nardi was last season the truth is the few times he has appeared this season he has been dreadful, a kind of Madson in reverse! So to say he would have gained us another 10 points, i can't agree with and seems wishful thinking. IMO his flapping would probably have cost us dearly.
The question is, can Walsh improve? IMO the answer is a yes and and hopefully will command the No. 1 jersey for a long time.

For the record I enjoy nearly all your posts and your insightful Comments but I don't think we will ever agree on this matter.

Here's the problem.
Goalies reach their peak skills at about 30 yrs of age (approximately).
Does the board accept a few more yrs of Championship football while Walsh improves (and I'm of the opinion that he will), or do they bring in the more finished article from elsewhere?
I suspect they would twist rather than stick. Only time will tell if that's best.

I think he’s got some glaring flaws in his game that need to be improved a lot over the summer if he’s going to be an average Champ goalkeeper. The stats would say he’s below average now.

But he’s not the main problem assuming they can only spend money in one or two positions. We’re still crying out for a midfielder and two if Varane goes. Well either spend on RND or find another left-back somewhere unless they’re still convincing themselves Esquerdinha is up to it. I doubt going by the spending last year and the latest accounts there’ll be much if anything in terms of fees other than what we get for Celar (£20 and a bag of Quavers), Lloyd (six figures to Lincoln) and maybe someone coming in for one of the more sellable players (Varane/Madsen).

So I reckon Walsh will be #1. Perhaps he’ll have a growth spurt.

Any see too may clubs queuing up for Varane and I’d keep Walsh, he is improving
I wouldn’t go near him with a barge pole* if I’m *insert French club* but he’s the sort of player/profile clubs look at and maybe take a punt on for a couple of million. Always get the impression he wants out but that’s not based on a lot.

Do wonder if anyone was having a look at Madders pre-injury. Too slow maybe but a good age and maybe a good fit for a less physical league.

*who’s got a barge pole?

Agree with all of this. I get scared when the ball goes anywhere near Walsh. There was one on Saturday that went straight through his hands slightly above his head at approx 1mph, any more pace and it would of been in the back of the net.
Everything is pushed out or dropped, did take one decent catch from a cross, and got out to block a shot so will give him that!

I have no malice for the guy. I would love him to quickly develop and become a great keeper. I'm just saying it as I see it. I guess you can say I'm being cold and harsh, in the sense I'm not giving him any leeway for being one of our own.

I can't remember which game it was recently but I said he had a very good game. And I'll always acknowledge when he makes a good save.

The thing is, perfect goalkeepers can only be afforded by the top teams in the world. So, we're never going to have a keeper strong enough in every area. With his weaknesses, I thought Nardi was out best keeper since Dieng, who also had his weaknesses.
