Yesterday reminded me of some of our games under Critchley, comfortable until we reached the final third and then created little.
Had a 'dream', or 'nightmare' if you like, during the night. It's all coming back. Went something like this: Club signed some guy from *****lia, it must have been, who could not stop scoring goals. He was also adept at the ancient art of throat singing, and would break into 'song' every time he scored. He would entertain his team mates who really loved him, and would sing for the fans as well. Club went up and up the league like a Hawker Harrier jump-jet. Woke-up in a cold sweat. Must admit my disappointment that it was just a dream and didn't really happen. Oh well...........
I thought the team showed a marked improvement yesterday and hopefully we’re gradually turning the corner. Positives are another game without a loss and most importantly a clean sheet. If there was ever a team that needed a striker..
Amazingly, the only charge on my card was for the round that I bought. Everyone else got away with it apart from young Patrick, who foolishly paid at the bar.
Definitely a big improvement in our passing yesterday but we desperately need to convert that into goal threat. Chair will hopefully provide that because Willock was largely anonymous yesterday. Smyth our best player going forward and we were solid at the back with Cook dominant, but Kakay gave the ball away a lot with misdirected passes. Signs of progress but where are the goals going to come from?
It’ll be in here: https://www.skysports.com/watch/vid...gers-0-0-bristol-city-championship-highlights it was definitely a penalty. Very poor refereeing decision which let us off. No arguments on our board. The thing is; we are usually in the receiving end of crap decisions like this, so forgive me if I’m quite pleased (well, relieved) about it on this occasion!! EDIT: just watched it and it doesn’t feature here - sorry. It should have been a penalty though - a much stronger shout than Bell’s shout (which IS shown in these highlights)
Big credit to Kakay for that block in front of goal when the striker seemed to have a tap in. Does anyone know how Dickie played - has he rediscovered his mojo or still a confused carthorse?
I bumped into some Oxford Utd supporters on their way to Orient before the game. They wanted us to win because Bristol pinched their manager last week, and their manager is pretty good. They also wanted to know why we sold Dickie, who they thought was great. I hope I reflected the truth when I responded: 1 because we could get some money for him, and really really need money 2 because he really wasn’t any better than our other CBs - slow, indecisive, nervy. The couple of goals he scored were a long time ago 3 because he was rumoured to be a troublemaker in the dressing room I really didn’t notice him yesterday, but we didn’t make their CBs do much work.
I wasn't there and have only seen it on the highlights, but I thought Armstrong went down far too easily and that it would have been a very soft penalty. It seems everyone else, including yourself, think it was a stonewall, so I'd better have another look.
He went down like a large piece of lumber in a forest. Unfortunately he might already have a (justified) reputation for not being able to keep his balance which will make refs give defenders the benefit of the doubt.
Not sure that’s fair. If a player doesn’t go down they’re never getting a decision when fouled in the box but there have been loads of very harsh decisions against him this season. It’s not a stonewall pen but I think the defender knows he’s not dealing with the situation cleanly.
Well it’s opinion, and I don’t have a very high opinion of Sinclair’s ability to stand up, in or out of the box. It worked for him against Cardiff last year though, so worth a try.
We'd have been pretty pissed if a pen was given against us for similar. Not sure it's a stonewall as folks are saying.
I have looked at it loads...and I think its a penalty, as it is an elbow across his neck/face...but the whole point is I have looked at it loads, probably 10 times. A ref gets one time and from an angle too. So bearing in mind the havoc that VAR produce, I think this is one we have to put up with to keep the decision in the referee and his human guise. We will get the rub of the green on a similar one soon I am sure.
Not sure if this angle has been shown on here. Have a look at this view Col. Maybe a step short of stonewall, but a clear pen imo.
