Constantly in home games we come out for the second half a good couple of minutes after the away team. Blackburn were ready for the second half and warmed up. It can’t be coincidence we keep either conceding or narrowly avoid doing so from minutes 45-60 but nobody at the club seems to realise it.

In the four minutes before their goal we managed to fluff a very presentable set piece, stand off them for what seemed forever and allow a cross under no pressure for the smallest bloke on the pitch to have a free header eight yards from the centre of the goal.

Well it will be time for Nourry to spin the wheel again soon. I cannot understand personally why:

1 We seem to have so many injuries and recruit players who get crocked before they start or on their debut.
2 The manager, whoever he is, seems to be incapable of imposing an attitude that the players play with the same commitment against the teams in the mire as they have when playing the promotion hopefuls. Warnock managed it so why can't the purists who have bought into the project?
3 We select managers because of their proven attacking mentality and preference to play with two strikers and then settle for lone striker and keeping clean sheets.
4 Each year clear gaps are visible in our recruitment strategy. If it's obvious to us why is it not obvious to the people recruiting. Is the manager in post at the time not consulted?

I believe that Stephan is on borrowed time if he is unable to deliver any sustained improvement. I also believe that Nourry has no more than one more throw of the dice available to him to get it right before the owners call time on him as well.

I think unless these last 14 games are a complete disaster he deserves the summer to fix some issues and a clean slate for next season. It’s not been as bad as it seems sometimes nor as good as it seemed at points earlier in the season but the run since Xmas has been very poor. Two wins in 11 including Sheffield Wednesday which is a gimme and only one performance you’d say was quite good throughout.

Otherwise it would just be some other **** in a coat coming in fresh from Belgium/Denmark/Austria. At least let this one fail properly first.

Was at a streamed Met Opera performance at Cineplex, so missed following our match yesterday,. Such a disappointing outcome, promotion chasing teams, via the playoffs, should not be tripping up over lowly positioned teams playing at HQ. Yet somehow we recently beat Coventry at home. Would putting Ben Hamer back in goal have helped the "cause" yesterday? I guess as they say, "in the Championship, on any given day anyone can beat anyone else" (highly or lowly positioned in the table).

I have to say I'm pretty disillusioned with Stephan, some of our performances have been abysmal and dropping points to teams we should be rolling over really says more about his tactics (if there are any) than anything else. So many games we are under the cosh because our midfield has more holes than a Swiss cheese and letting Field go could prove costly as the injuries pile up. I'm still looking behind us in the table as the playoffs were never a realistic chance...

Apparently we have the 4th lowest wage bill in the division. All the teams that pay less than us are below us. It’s not a real predictive guide, and there are always outliers - Leicester are the biggest payers in the league, and Coventry only a bit more generous than us - but it’s a decent way to think about expectations. And we’re doing ok by this measure, and still much better that I expected at the beginning of the season. Stephan is a cut above Cifuentes, and the recruitment has been very good for our situation. Injuries are a bastard but all teams get them.

Yesterday’s performance was dire, especially second half, but the game was typical of the championship, where the quality is low to mediocre but competitiveness is insane.

Next five games ...
Hull away 5th
Southampton ... only lost three home games
Birmingham ... only lost once in 39 home games
Next two home games are Boro and Sheff Utd ... Gulp ... can't see a lot of points from any of these. I fear that we'll be looking down instead of up. We should've gone all out for the win v Blackburn. Depressing yet again. Back to the lower ends of the table. 16th again?
