That would be me. As I said above, Armstrong makes sense if we are playing the ball over the top as our main tactic, like today. He’s strong and fast, and a couple of times today also passed the ball accurately. He’s getting better, I don’t think he’s a very good footballer but he’s a physical presence. He’s got to understand what happens with defenders at corners or he’ll be sent off soon, has a tendency to square up to people. As I said after the Watford game, if we play this way and win, great. But we ain’t winning, and after Ainsworth’s first five matches we have fewer points than we did with Critchley at the same stage. If we play **** football it has to be winning **** football. At one stage today our main tactic seemed to be trying to win throw ins so Drewe could use his ‘long’ throw. None of which resulted in a shot on target. Horrible stuff. Best thing today was that Dieng made a non routine save for the first time for ages. His distribution remains crap though. This morning on the long slow drive to the game I thought that we were safe regardless, other teams were equally **** and wouldn’t catch up. I hope I was right, because we really are ****. It was dire today, the spirit and passion that drove us against Watford (I wasn’t there for that one, sadly) weren’t evident today. No response from the players or manager to going a goal down within 3 minutes. Only the last 10-15 minutes did we look lively. Brum, who were almost as **** as us, had six shots on target to our two. I think/hope we will stay up this year, largely due to the points we gained under Beale and the ****ness of other teams in the League, but I really think we’ll struggle from day one next year. The squad will be weaker as we have to save money, not just tread water, for FFP, and Ainsworth is a League One manager. R block had their sack the board banners and chants out today. Interesting times.
Armstrong can walk quicker than Martin can run. I totally understand wanting to get 3 PTS by any means but this hoof ball and it is just hoof ball up to Martin is pure amateur stuff. It's awful to watch, doesn't even work unless you have 3 or 4 runners off the striker and you have to be a pretty accurate long passer. I can see this at my local park on a Sunday every week. I feel quite sorry for Armstrong and as I've stated before, he could easily become a scapegoat. We bring him on when we are always losing and some expect him to do more than what Martin or dykes did in the 80 mins before he gets on. He generally does to be fair. How's about starting the lad when we aren't chasing a game and use that immobile lump Martin as a last resort. This is some of the worst football I have ever seen us play, infact it goes against everything I try coach on the training pitch. Ainsworth ain't for me I'm afraid.
Good grief that was a load of ****. Imagine paying £36 plus £3.50 booking fee to watch that? Add in the travel cost and the beers and the food! You're looking at paying over |£100 pound to watch the Rangers. **** that!
As I posted earlier, the last time we won back to games, we were on the start of our decline. We weren't playing well, but what we did have was Armstrong starting both games up front with Dykes ! Surely to goodness some div in the analytical department can recall this and relay it to Ainsworth and tell him to start with those 2 next game ffs. The football is beyond diabolical, but we need something from somewhere to save our sorry asses. The midfield is probably one of the worst I've ever witnessed in all my years, and the defence is definitely in the top 5 worst I've ever seen. Start Johansen, and start those 2 up top and just get the ball to Sinclair and say cause mayhem. It might and probably won't come off, but at this stage , surely it's worth trying, because quite frankly , **** all all does. The players are just totally **** !
Maybe the board dabbled on the future, hence the reason they went with Ainsworth. I can't believe we are playing so bad and then, we drop further the following week. Reading all the reports from you folk certainly makes for unpleasant reading but there is no dressing over where we're at. As others have mentioned, we can only hope other teams suck more than ours and we stay up.
My sons will tell you I'm no great footie tactical expert but even I can see that Armstrong playing off Dykes causes the opposition defence considerable problems. Whether that ever translates into a goal or two is an altogether different question.
He didn’t play off Dykes as far as I could see. He played up with the last defender and ran on to balls played over the top. He was effective at it to be fair, couple of balls squared and a couple of corners won. I understand ‘playing off’ a big CF as running on to knock downs or passes laid back from holding the ball up. I don’t remember that happening from either CF. Whatever we call it, it worked better than what went before. Be interesting to see whether it works from the kick off or it’s a tactic to be used against a tiring defence.
Difficult to argue with much or any of that. I still refuse to judge Ainsworth till next season. He's inherited an absolute shambles. Yes, taking the trouble to go to games, only to watch complete garbish is hugely frustrating and fair play to all those who were there, but I maintain that the quality of football means nothing right now. Staying up is everything. The other point I'd make is our injury list. No team in this league would cope well with the amount of decent players we have missing. Yes, we're not convinced about some of them with regards to commitment, but their obvious ability would surely make a difference, at least enough to bring us the couple of wins we need. Get Balogun, Laird, Paal, Chair and Willock back into the team and I think we'd pick up enough points to stay up. All that matters for me, right now, is staying up.
I agree it's all about staying in this division no matter how. I also agree that the injury list is hindering our predicament. Saying that, our recruitment tends to go for injury prone players. I still don't even class the likes of Balogun or Clarke-Salter as QPR players. Willock is the new Amos so we best get used to that. The decline in the club, both on and off the pitch is astonishing. I genuinely feared for Ainsworth taking over, just as I did when he was mentioned for the job back in 2019. I don't blame the bloke for what he's inherited, I don't blame him for taking the job. It isn't pretty, it never will be. He's a direct manager, plays on percentages and we will always have a big lump up front to encourage that. Personally, i think it's a massive digression within the modern game and one that I just can't get on board with. For me, he was appointed to appease the fans and to give the board some slack. It worked and is working to an extent. Fans love him, the board love the fact that he has never spent a penny. Match made in heaven. The football I have witnessed since he took over is nothing short of horrible, amateurish, naive and predictable but he's working with what Les and the board have provided him with. If we stay up this season, brilliant, but I fear we will be in a relegation scrap for the next few seasons until the board and owners realise just how much they have ****ed this club up.
I haven’t watched any of the last few matches. Can’t bring myself to still see defenders out of position and leaving space for forwards to have chances. Seeing forwards aiming shots at the keeper. Missed passes. Bloody hell … credit to all those going and traveling distance to watch the lads. If there was a strategy to bring in players with past injuries/injury history that is a definite risk, but you manage the risk only one or two - not half a bloody team. Shocking decision making from upstairs and this ‘recruitment’ team. Time for fresh blood leading that team I think. We’ve certainly had, and created, our own bad luck that’s for sure. Painful reading what you guys are seeing. We can only hope, and prey, that returning players will be fit after this break and we come back stronger and fighting. I agree, give Armstrong a chance to start and rattle defensive lines. Then let Martin come on later and wind them up further. Dykes gives a lot but it ain’t goals. We are desperate, ****ing desperate, for goals. Eight cup finals to go. C’mon Rrrrrrs.
Didn't follow the match, other than check the score in the early going and couldn't believe that we were already 1-0 down after just 3 minutes. Really didn't think that would remain the FT score, was of course hoping that on home turf we would manage to get back into the game and at least manage a draw. Of course my greatest fear was another 6-1 Blackpool style drubbing. We definitely must win a few games before season end to ensure our survival from relegation. Got a chuckle out of this eBay listing, maybe I should buy it and wear during our upcoming matches! "Vintage Catholic St Jude Pray For Us BRASS TONE Medal RARE"
