Preview;
Birmingham City make the trip to Loftus Road looking to close the 4 point gap that separates them, in 8th place, from a playoff place. They are also only 4 points ahead of us, albeit also 6 places ahead of us. Big difference, as has seemed to be the case a lot this year, is up front, with their top scorer, Che Adams, on 16 goals, compared to Nakhi Wells for us, who is on 8. I know I have written about this stat before but it really shows the difference in my opinion, but that is 1 goal per 266 minutes played for Wells, compared to 1 every 147 minutes for Adams.
I have fond memories of Lee Camp playing for us, and I hope he gets a good welcome back on Saturday. I suspect it may be a busier afternoon for Lumley and our back line though, as Adams and Jutkiewicz seem a pretty effective front pairing. Hopefully Lynch and Leistner can keep them both quiet and the 12th man can play their part to give us the win.
I'll update when team news is on the official, but just wanted to give you all time to point out players who have played for both that I have missed.
Enjoy those who are going, and COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
From the official;
QUEENS Park Rangers return to league action this weekend to take on Birmingham City as the R’s hectic schedule continues.
Progression to the 5th Round of the FA Cup means Rangers will play six games during the rest of February starting with a tricky tie against Birmingham City.
Blues are arguably the most improved team in the Championship this season with Garry Monk’s side coming into Saturday’s game just four points off the play-off positions.
Contrast that to the last time Blues came to Loftus Road and lost 3-1, which meant their fight against relegation ended up going down to the final league fixture of the 2017-18 term.
Birmingham survived that threat with a 3-1 victory over Fulham and have only looked up since then. Garry Monk has put together a well-organised outfit who have an outside chance of making this season’s top six - something few would have predicted at the start of the campaign.
However, the team from the West Midlands have experienced a difficult start to the new year and their victory last week against Nottingham Forest was their first of 2019. Whilst you have to go back to December 22nd 2018 for their last three points on the road – a 3-0 win over Wigan.
There was little to separate the two teams in a goalless fixture at St Andrew’s back in September. Rangers perhaps had the better of the game but both teams had to settle for a point. You have to go back over 12 years ago for Birmingham’s last victory in W12, a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Bruno N’Gotty and Cameron Jerome.
