Actually in Seattle for TFC's season opener, ko in 2hrs, along with Jermain Defoe. Retooled Toronto FC kicks off season with high hopes Seattle Sounders 1st test, as MLS club faces pressure with off-season additions please log in to view this image The pressure is on as a retooled Toronto FC kicks off its MLS season Saturday in Seattle against the Sounders (4:30 p.m. ET). After seven years of on-field failure, new Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment CEO Tim Leiweke dug deep into a well-stocked corporate pocket to bankroll manager Ryan Nelsen and GM Tim Bezbatchenko's global talent search. Many zeros later, Toronto FC is now home to England striker Jermain Defoe, U.S. international midfielder Michael Bradley, Brazilian international goalie Julio Cesar and forward Gilberto, and veteran Canadian star midfielder Dwayne De Rosario. Toronto stocked up on so many designated players, it had to trade incumbent DP Matias Laba to Vancouver to get down to the league limit of three. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/retooled-toronto-fc-kicks-off-season-with-high-hopes-1.2573631
Oh! I forgot that he had gone to Toronto. Can we call him back? - pronto from Toronto! Edit: We could also do with Defoe on Tuesday!
A good performance at last, although Yeovil were not up to much. Morrison MOM, with mentions for Hoillet, Barton and Jenas. Zamora and Krancjar both did well as subs.
Maybe it's me but I found today's game extremely boring. We won with a few isolated glimpses of decent football between long spells of tikitaka a la QPR. Yeovil hit the bar and could have equalised. I think they won 80% of the headers and 90% of any subsequent touch. No wonder we have with almost all the first 8 teams. Agreed a win is a win but LT is totally deflated by our football. We could hardly hear R block today.
Referring to me? I'm not a hater, I have critisized him on occasions but only when I watch the games. Had him down as one of the scorers today in my prediction.
He did better today. Started on the left with Traore on the right (as per the switch from 35 minutes to half time vs Leeds United). Then swapped over when Traore was substituted following his injury, with Kranjcar, then Morrison in latter stages operating out on the left. I think the best way to sum David Hoilett up is to conclude that he consistently fails to match expectations. Today he was better than usual, albeit against the league's least able team. He forever gets the ball, beats his man, then procrastinates, cuts back and loses any advantage from the first foray forward. Credit is due to his cross for Bobby Zamora's goal. Though he did threaten to cross three times, before finally delivering a perfect ball.
I never watch the Scum, unless I think they are going to lose. I turned it on at 30 mins and thought, no, they will fluke a 1-0 , so I turned it off. What a miss!
Best performance I've seen this season. They all played well - will keane aside. Thought he's got a lot to learn still. Bobby z was much better when he came on. Hoilett v dangerous too.
MLS season opener - Seattle Sounders v TFC, with Cesar & Defoe + Michael Bradley, match about to start - watching it on TSN. It's not Thursday, but Jermain Defoe just scored his 1st goal for TFC after 16 min. HT - TFC 2 nil up - Defoe added a 2nd goal after 24 min - what a great investment! Cesar has nothing really to do so far. FT - Seattle 1 TFC 2 Ryan Nelsen gets his first win of the MLS season (only 6 wins last season) Julio Cesar missed out on a shut-out (Clint Dempsey scored for Seattle), a couple of good saves, got a yellow card for time wasting. Defoe, 2 chances, 2 shots, 2 goals - a true gun for hire. Bradley Orr came on as a 2nd half sub for TFC.
Hoilett for once beat his man & decent cross & BZ did the rest, I would like to see more of that from him as he has potential, nico & bobby changed the game for us & it was better play but only in patches, like to bobby start ties as keane looked a bit lost at times.
