Just back home... a few more thoughts to share... Starting from the back.... Rob Green and Brian Murphy. Nothing to do for either 'keeper, but disappointing to see a handful of poor kicks from both today. In all cases they placed the pressure immediately back onto the defence and were all avoidable. More practice please gents! 6/10 Nedum Onuaha - at centre back he looked in his most comfortable position. A very solid game. If I were Harry I would keep him there for the rest of the season and work the remaining positions around him. 7/10 Clint Hill. Finally his Lionel Messi flick worked after two awful failures in previous matches. He can stop doing this now he's won his bet with Uncle Neil! Otherwise a quiet day at the office, evident from the times he got forward to support attacks. Amusing to see him chastise himself after playing one through ball straight out of touch. 6/10 Richard Dunne. Again quiet. But I do like it when he gets a head of steam up and drives forward. It reminds me of Brian Moore on the charge for England! 6/10 Aaron Hughes. Similarly a quiet game. But he must work on his distribution. Awful at times. 5/10 Joey Barton. Did the simple things effectively and grew in influence. Linked up very well with Nico Kranjcar and Revel Morrision. 7/10 Jermaine Jenas. Similar to Joey Barton, he had an effictive game. One great teasing shot following a pull back on the edge of the area that shaved the crossbar. 6/10 David Hoilett. One great cross for Bobby Zamora's goal. But should have shot when in a great position in the first half instead just procrastinated and dinked up a cross. Good endeavour. Would like to see him track back a bit more. 6/10 Armand Traore. Great energy. Always driving forward. Took the attack to Yeovil today. His close control is not as good as others in the team, but he makes up for this with his pace and endeavour. Seems reading the Chimp Paradox book has served him well. 7/10 Revel Morrison. Just too good for the opposition today. And probably most of the SBC too. Great first touch, excellent vision on the ball, and intuitive movement off the ball. A spark of class. We will miss him if gets injured and it was alarming to see him point to his groin late on. 9/10 William Keane. Not good enough. Barely touched the ball. When he did he went backwards or sideways. Failed to hold the ball up. Caught offside too often. Cannot remember him winning much in the air. I joked in the first half that Bobby Zamora would score today (with his walking stick) if the selection was reversed. 4/10 Nico Kranjcar. Looked sharp and up for the battle. Good to see him come out at half time to walm up again after entering the field in place of Armand Traore just before the interval. Never looks like getting pushed off the ball. Great to see him and Ishmail Miller go shoulder to shoulder. Bobby Zamora. What can I say. What a great game. On at 65 minutes and won almost everything. Tracked back. Looked lively. Stretched the play. Won headers and held the ball up. Was perfectly placed to score. William Keane take note. He even bounced up to his feet after landing awkwardly in the dying minutes. Is it feasible to get 90 minutes from him? 8/10
Nope, not you mate. But there are some on here who say he's crap, when he clearly hasn't just become crap after being that great player we saw at Blackburn. There are some at the ground who are on his case throughout, even when he's doing ok. He had two assists today and deserves some credit imo.
Good write-up. Three great goals from a middling/worrying team performance against poor opposition. If we'd been playing a capable side, we'd have been murdered.
One of the major worries this season has been some woeful passing from our defensive players, Dunne in particular is one player who gives me the jitters when he's in possession near our box...
I think our control on the ball has been poor for sometime now and ruined our play. Those like Traore & Hoillet, who you would expect to be good on the ball, have been particularly wasteful; but throughout the team we have lacked the class on the ball you would expect from these level of players. Has been our undoing!!
I was half right! Haven't read the thread or seen any of the action, but hope it was fun. There's still hope.....
Well said this boy try's every game to open up the opposition and great to see BZ score Certain that our squad and players all want to return to the highest level too many on here have it in their brains it's all about the money ... Can't agree
Anyone know why the American lad taken off for Yeovil half way through the first half? He seemed to get on the ball quite a lot and wasn't injured. Odd decision. As was their disallowed goal.
