Superb day Stan! The bottle of Rioja is going down very well at the moment as well! Two home games & we have seen ten goals scored. That is the queens Park Rangers I came to love! Yes Swords, forget the league position. I go to football to enjoy & be entertained. That they did today, & fifteen thousand of us at the ground would take a match like that every week! If the result was everything I could spend every week watching Geoff Stelling. BTW Rotherham looked a better side to me than Sunderland, Wham & Palace were at the Bush last season.
Sounds like it was a great day out. Wish I could have been there. To win is what counts of course, but if there's a choice, I always prefer a 4-2 to a 1-0! Still hope we got a decent CB and a replacement for Austin lined up - that he'll go just before the deadline has always looked the most likely scenario to me, with Phillips and Fer too I expect.
Best day out I can remember at Loftus Road since the play off semi. Great to see all those you mentioned above, plus Inky, Kingdom and the lovely Sharon before that. While agreeing with everything that Statler said above, I'd like to nominate Luongo as man of the match, I thought that he was magnificent, and whether through a change of style or Ramsey's training Austin now appears to be a far better team player and readily gets involved in set up play. A fantastic day out, fabulous entertainment, who could ask for more?
Great to read these reports. Not only did I miss today but I'm on hols for the visit of Treebeard's minions on 12th Sept but Mrs RTID has cleverly booked return flights on 16th in time for me to make it to the match. Once again, thrilled to read the positive comments.
It's only two a game as long as we can keep scoring three we'll be all right Seriously though is a real problem & should have been addressed by now.
What a day, it was great to get reacquainted with the usual faces briefly before the match. I think it's the earliest we've ever left the Crown & Sceptre as we all wanted to be at HQ to honour Stan 'the man' Bowles, who took to the pitch before kick off. This was my first game this season in which I've had the opportunity to see the latest incarnation of the 'New Rangers' in the flesh. For the first half an hour it still felt like 'Arry was still in charge. Not a lot happened. There was little shape or distinction to our play, we created little and the best chances fell to Rotherham when Green had to dive low and right to save a defected shot that was creeping in at the near post and another shot hit the post. I couldn't quite determine what was wrong. As I glanced around the pitch and assessed the personnel it seemed that individually they were all doing ok. I think it was the front three not quite combining, but then it all suddenly changed. The ball got swept out to Perch on the right, he drove forward and crossed to Austin who laid the ball back to Chery who curled the ball Bowlesesque like with his left foot into the far post. A fine goal. The second half saw a very different Rangers side. There were some neat passages of play and the second goal was the result of another fine move. Austin was slightly fortunate with the third but did well to work himself into the space to create his chance. Faurlin slipped and gave the ball away for what seemed a consolation for the Millers, Harris-Clarke with an excellent finish, only for them to score again as the defence went to sleep and gave Thorpe acres of space in the six yard box for an easy finish. The Rangers faithful were shaking like ****ting dogs as the thoughts of another last minute equaliser beckoned, it's happened far too often to us last season and now even this one too. Those dreaded memories were soon suppressed when Polter gallantly took the ball into the box and was tripped. Penalty! I thought Chery would have taken it to secure his hat-trick but Polter was having none of that as he was desperate to get off the mark and register his first league goal wearing the half hoops. But then I think the call came from the bench for Charlie to take it. No room for sentimentality today sonny. He stepped forward took ball off of Polter who looked totally dismayed. Austin sent the keeper the wrong way and Loftus Road became a very happy and sunny place again. Other than the first half hour which was a bit of a struggle, there seemed to be a refreshing honesty about our play and players today. As the season goes on, I think this group of players will grow as a team and play some good football. Where that takes us I'm not sure. Going up might be a bit much but then you never know in football. I think we'll end up just outside the play-offs personally. I don't think a back to back relegation is on the cards, although a lot depends on who stays and go's. This transfer window leaves us in limbo until that closes. I'll re-evaluate then.
Ahhhhh yes, a mere slip of the tongue but who cares now, we won! Great to hear so many happy people having had a great day out. Good news!!!!
Great to see stan walk out on the pitch & what a player he was, the match didn't really kick untill about 30 odd minutes but two good goals by chery settled the nerves & Austin finished it, back to back wins. & that's rare.
Gutted to miss what appears to have been a great day as I was away with grandchildren. Perfect weather, the great man himself and a 4-2 result, echoes of 75-76. Great to see the club really 'adopting' the Alzheimer's Society and giving them such a warm welcome...
Sounds to me like we have got our Rangers back. That should be something to be welcomed by all Rs. I take it you weren't there. I'd rather watch the picking themselves up and keep going for goals rather than the bore fest we were subjected to under Redknapp when you and a handful seemed to think we were brilliant because we'd score a goal and then defend that lead as if our lives depended on it. Football has moved on a lot since the dark days of catennacio and dominance in Europe by the likes of Inter Milan in the mid-sixties. Early days yet and too early to say if we've got it right or wrong. It is as Stan says a work in progress. There will be dark days ahead and many good ones as well. But. 1 We know what our weaknesses are which need to be addressed. 2 We know what our strengths are and which should not be abandoned at the expense of the former. I'll take the progress so far and not be quick to condemn.
I agree that the transfer window could well decide how the season pans out. That first half hour had a lot to do with the way Rotherham played imo. They kept knocking the ball long, in behind our back four, continually forcing us to turn back towards our own goal. That made it very hard for our ball players to get a foot-hold in the game. Rotherham had clearly come for a point, taking an eternity over every goal kick and throw in. The poor ref didn't help the game to flow either. Gradually though, we did start to play some good stuff and I thought we looked very good at times. Luongo and Chery in particular looked very good.
Glad it was such a great day for Stan....missed it as I am in a field in Devon in torrential rain....was it hot there ????? Soaked to the @@@@@@ skin...tent awash... But I'm happy....very happy Super hoopser.. Can only be happier if we actually get to tonight and see Gogol bordello. Up the Rrrs
