I'd agree with the Washington / EK point

I felt that a key issue today was the ineffectiveness of our (initial) wide players - Cousins and Ngbakoto - neither of whom seems capable of or willing to take on the opposition

We resorted to too many long balls as a result, all too often over-hit or flicked on to nobody (other than the Preston defence) by Polter

Anyhow - enough moaning from me :grin: - onwards to Rochdale on Tuesday, and Wigan on Saturday

It didn't go well and I couldn't understand the logic of taking Henry off when others should have been. We we laid open a long period after he went off.....".ole ole ole"
 
Did I hear Jimmy say tiredness and attribute that to a small squad? Definite message to The Board. I'm not actally thinking they threw the game but, assuming they did not, it was a pretty fable excude.
Looks like a long season ahead.

After going two down he rightly went with two up front. The mistake was moving Chery to the right which left the midfield hopelessly unbalanced. Thus the prolonged periods of Preston possession.

I'm not having a go at you. Wanting the Manager out is a valid opinion, just not one I agree with. IBut I don't understand why you don't want him sacked if you have never thought him the right man for the job.
 
I see the crowd was just over 13,000, many more performances like this and we'll be struggling to make 10,000. The consequences of our Poundland expedition are becoming clearer...

Because we keep sacking managers and i want some stability. Let me clarify, I think we needed a manager that wasn't going to break the bank. Get a team that is young and exciting (opposite to Harry). Jimmy for me is like a Holloway, Someone to steady the ship but not long term. He was not the manager for me but i will give him a chance. I will be happy to be proved wrong.
At the end of the day it's about winning games and good performances and if that is not happening then you have a right to question it. This is not after 4 games but 31. People forget that. It's now his team (no more excuses). If you throw away a 2-1 lead at Barnsley with 15 minutes to play and lose 2-0 at home to Bottom 3 Preston, then you should ask questions. When i get 3 texts from mates at the game that say 'Horror show', 'Worst performance in years', "rubbish mate", then i read countless tweets,reports, backing that up, then it worry's me.

Agree with that about stability and it is worrying. Not sure that is the team he wants yet. The Bench yesterday showed the Squad is thin, and needs strengthening by end August, which Budget limitations may stop him getting. Not sure he could have made a much better start with these players and the injuries and suspension.

Sorry your trip didn't go to script and that the rest of your trip was worthwhile. I often say that match days are only spoiled by the game itself, the rest of the day is brilliant.

Hi Col, good to see you as ever mate.

Considering that we ended the match playing two at the back (three if you chose to include Onuoha I guess) and had Caulker wandering around aimlessly upfront while our midfield was badly outnumbered, do you think that it would have been a better option to bring on Washington for Caulker and leave Henry to offer some ballast in the middle of the pitch? (Clearly this question is totally based on hindsight....)

Good to see you too mate.

I think I would have brought on Washington for Yani and El K for cousins.
I'd have left Henry in front of the back four and played Luongo on the right of midfield, Chery in the middle and EL K on the left.
4-1-3-2.
I'm never a fan of a CB playing up front.
As a last throw of the dice I'd have taken Bidwell off, gone three at the back and added Shodipo on to the right with Luongo pushing inside.
I don't understand why so many coaches seem to do it by numbers rather than being more inventive.
 
Yani needs a sea change in performance from yesterday's pi55poor effort. I think Gladwin has offered more. Henry made a couple of mistakes but at least made an effort, unless it was for reasons I could not see, Henry was perhaps one of the last players I'd have subbed.
 
That makes sense. Moving Chery from the middle was hardly a tactical masterstroke, and Washington and El Khayati certainly livened things up. It took me about half an hour to notice that Ngbakoto was playing (and I was there for kick off before Hoops Eternal suggests otherwise).

Someone in the middle of the pitch who could pass the ball and retain possession would have helped.
 
We need to give Yani time, he has only just joined us from another country. It took Polter all of last season to settle in, now we are seeing what he can do, patience is the key. We are no longer able to buy players that will instantly propel us to the top of the table, a fact of life now I'm afraid.

Perhaps, but if he's not ready lets not play him at least not for as long as we left him on the pitch for yesterday.
 
I have spent Sunday painting one of my daughters bedrooms. I ****ing hate decorating, but I would rather paint the Forth bridge than have to spend another 2 hours watching the hoof ball I was subjected to yesterday at Loftus Rd, no width, no guile, no skill, no tactical nous on behalf of the players or management.
13,000 paying souls watched that ****e & fair play to PNE by the way, they had us sussed after 10 mins & were the better side throughout, 40,000 seater stadium, have a day off, could have shut the school end yesterday.
I would rather watch my car rust, and before you ask no its not an Alfa Romeo.
Bottom third of the Div if we are lucky
