Just listened to the Brendan Rogers interview, where he indicated that with Suarez gone and Sturridge injured, they have lost 80% of their goal scoring from last season - at least we are doing our part to help out by chipping in a few goals? http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/29586620
English / Irish? Commentators I heard here in Thailand said we started the game in 4 4 2 with Ned and Yun the full backs, Isla Wide right midfield and Fer wide left mid. Change at half time was Phillips at right mid with Isla dropping back to RB, then with Sandro off, Fer moved to central mid and Traore took over left wide.? It looked that on the TV too. If Niko isn't badly hurt I was surprised he didn't at least come in as the 2nd sub.
Very unlucky lads - but the spirit and endeavour at least gives some grounds for optimism - reading through this thread sees emotions that encapsulate what British football is all about ... despite losing again I think you can take more out of this weekend than we can - you gave it a real go for the full 90.
I'm starting to think that maybe we did start with 4 at the back now, even though we all agreed when we had our half time chat that we'd started with 3 centre backs. It certainly looked that way, although Yun did stay back a lot more than Isla, so maybe Isla was right mid. With only Balotelli up top, all we saw was Caulker, Dunne and Onuoha marking him with Yun and especially Isla pushed right up. Liverpool changed it in the 2nd half swapping Gerrard back to his usual deep position which made them more solid.
The club's twitter feed showed the formation as 3-5-2, for whatever that is worth. If we can't agree among ourselves it shows that the formation must have been pretty fluid, a big plus point in my opinion.
I'm still pretty sure it was 3-5-2 first half the more I think about it. The club usually release the formation that the coaching staff have informed them of surely? Norway........your pitch plan shows it more as 3-5-2 than anything else mate and I'd agree with all those positions except Fer, who was mainly on the left first half (and continuously failed to track back when Johnson went forward!).
It was 4-4-2 with Onuoha RB and Fer wide left. Looking at the names pre-match it was reasonable to assume we were going to play 3-5-2, but that's not what happened.
That's not what the club say mate. Whatever.......Liverpool playing 1 up top led us to play with 3 at the back anyway.
Can't see how anyone watching the game today can say we were playing 3-5-2. No matter what the club said, it was clearly, clearly 4-4-2.
It was anything but clear mate. For the entire first half, Balotelli was on the half way line with Caulker, Dunne and Onuoha for company. Isla and Yun were pushed on. it may have been either imo but the game dictated that we played three at the back first half.
Seems this match had a similar finish to ours, but finished all square, which would have been fair for us too. Inter Milan 2 (GuarÃn 82′ Hernanes 90′ Napoli 2 (Callejón 79′, 90′ http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/29657896
