QPR striker Sebastian Polter admitted Saturday's pre-season friendly victory against Watford was one to relish - but insists there is still big room for improvement ahead of the visit of Leeds United to Loftus Road this weekend.

Rangers warmed up for Sunday's season-opener against the Whites in fine style with a convincing 2-0 win over Premier League Watford, with Polter opening the scoring in the first half, before Conor Washington doubled the Hoops' advantage late on.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the German front-man - a constant threat all afternoon on Saturday - said: "It was our best performance of pre-season, without a doubt.

"We also played very well against PSV Eindhoven, as a team. But we worked really hard against Watford, from the goalkeeper to the forwards, and that’s the way it’s always got to be – it’s the basics.

"We were very pleased to finish off pre-season in such fashion."

He added: "The Watford win was what we needed – the goal was what I needed, as scoring goals gives you confidence as a striker.

"However, I must say that it was only a friendly game, so we’re not overhyping it.

"The league is what’s important. We want to improve still and we know we can, so that’s what we’ll try to do. It’s a process that’s not finished yet."

With one eye already on Sunday's Championship clash against Leeds in W12, Polter pointed to home advantage being a key factor on the opening weekend, commenting: "We’re at home – in our house.

"We need to take the Watford game into Sunday.

"If we can do that, playing the same way, I’m really confident that we can take all three points. That’s what we want."
