The R’s suffered heartbreak in the final minute at Ewood Park last weekend conceding to an injury time Sam Gallagher goal after the officials ruled out what was a legitimate Conor Washington opener.
The performance on the whole was decent from Holloway’s side and they will know they should have left the North West with at least a point.
The same, however, cannot be said about Rangers last match at Loftus Road having been deservedly beaten by Burton Albion.
Our visitors Huddersfield are having their best season since returning to the Championship in 2012. German-American manager David Wagner has completely revolutionised the football club in the 13 month’s he’s been there with the number of players brought from the continent and their unique ‘gegenpressing’ style of football, which he learnt from Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund.
The Terriers now have a great chance of making the play-offs. They are currently sat in 5th place and are only six points below Newcastle in 2nd meaning automatic promotion can’t be ruled out at this stage of the season. But perhaps more encouraging for the side from West Yorkshire is that they have an eight point cushion and game in hand on Norwich City who are just outside the play-offs in 7th place.
It’s fair to say that not many pundits and bookies had predicted this kind of season from Huddersfield. Having finished 19th last year, which included a run of just two wins from their last ten games many thought Town might struggle but they deserve massive credit for the way they’ve applied themselves this season.
They also come into this game off the back of a dramatic 90th minute winner against fierce rivals Leeds in a derby where emotions certainly seemed to reach boiling point. That win means they have been victorious in their last four outings. However, Huddersfield have a poor record at Loftus Road and have still not won a league game in W12.
When the teams last met in September Huddersfield were the dominant side for most of the game and raced into a two goal lead. Rangers replied with a late Idrissa Sylla header but did not do enough to force an equaliser.
Saturday should be more of an interesting tactical battle with both teams now playing their best football on the counter attack. The Hoops home form needs to pick up as they try to steer away from the clubs below them.
