Would love West Ham to come up; I think I disliked them more than Spurs for a while: Ward Cottee etc...loved ending their title hopes at UP in 86.

Almost as big as the Spurs game in the 80s. They always brought more numbers than spurs too

I think for the bigger London clubs it's more of a disadvantage to have derbies. The likes of Bolton and Wolves are more inclined to roll over at Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane than ourselves, Fulham and West Ham imo. No idea of the stats, just a theory. Better for the fans, though, obviously.

    Yeah you mentioned that.

Up until about 10 years ago maybe less I viewed West Ham as a bigger game than anyone else inc Spurs for sentimental reasons. My childminder and her children who were some of my closest friends at the time were all West Ham. We had a horrendous record against them in the 90s as well, used to hate losing to them more than anyone else.

I was almost 15 before I witnessed a league defeat to Spurs so it didn't matter as much.

Went to UP in 03 (West Ham end<yikes>) and if we'd won or drawn we'd have relegated them there and then, many Chelsea fans in the Chelsea end said on various forums they would not have made it out alive if we'd relegated them, in a way I was gutted (as I thought we had missed out on CL) but also relieved at the same time.

Thankfully Liverpool lost 2-1 to City and the rest was history

I agree and disagree with you there Watford.

As a Blue, I prefer having derbies because with us it leads to less complacency. Our records against Fulham, West Ham and Spurs and recent record against Arsenal are evidence of this.

If you can't get a performance in a derby then you know something is wrong, where as with us, it would not be uncommon to hammer Spurs one week and then lose to Wigan next midweek.

I am a firm believer in players raising their game for the big games and I can understand what Mickey Thomas (ex-United) meant in that teams often raise their game for United as it's a cup final and everybody wants to beat them.

For travel purposes (team) it's much better.

Last thing you want after playing Napoli away on a Wednesday is having a trip like Sunderland away as apposed to a more local fixture.

Was that the Carling Cup or FA Cup? I can't remember. There was trouble at the one I was at for sure though.

I agree. Everton as well have a huge disliking of United and Mancs in general. Take out Wigan and all of those Lanc clubs usually give United a game, to a far lesser extent the same is true of Liverpool and City.

In the West Midlands the same is true of Villa and Wolves, East Midlands same is true of Forest, Yorkshire Leeds and Sheffield Weds <ok>

Funny when I was writing that I thought should I put ‘League’ after 15 years? But then I thought no one would be that pedantic?

All old school Rangers fans saw 2008 as massive.

For the younger chaps, 2011 in the league would be a bigger game as they probably would not go to the Bridge, especially the new wave of fans Rangers have inherited since promotion.
