Yes, great result, rubbish though mostly. Charlie and Green played great and won that for us. Now I'm hearing Arry's excuses again.
Despite only 35% possession a fantastic result for us to build on going forward. We were nervy and seemed to lack confidence with sloppy passing giving up possession in the 1st half, but after the break we really grew into this game with two well worked and taken goals by Charlie - pity Hoilett's shot didn't dip in and Vargas, who is a great playmaker and goal scorer, deserved one too. We mustn't be greedy though, but I was just so stressed that Villa were going to pull back a goal back leading to one of our usual squeaky bum finishes. Once we got the goals our play became noticeably more confident. Also an excellent game for Rob Green, who made some key saves and looked sharp the whole match - good to have two top goalkeepers competing for the #1 spot.
I thought we are greatly improved and it was good to see us chasing down players to get possession. It wasn't perfect, of course, but I'll happily take that. Some good performances through the team; defence looked best for a while (Isla improving every game, Dunne did well, Caulker settling, Yun impressive); middle could be better (Henry working hard, Sandro settling in, Fer improving, Vargas very impressive); forward line worked hard (Zamora did well with defence tight on him, Charlie showing he can finish and is a natural). Definitely a big step in the right direction. Triffic!!!
He certainly practices the KISS principle, although some of those defensive clearances he put into touch for a throw-in close to our goal could have perhaps been played upfield taking some pressure off us. It seems Yun finally has that LB/LWB position sewn up - he is really tough, plays with confidence and is hard to push off the ball.
Yun and Vargas have made a real difference. They help us play with a real tempo. Should be ever presents for the rest of the season. But why did it take Harry so long to pick yun? We've all been crying out for him from the start of the season
Yeah, I thought he was excellent and I fully expect him to start every game now, as should Dunne. Vargas was another real highlight for me. He was lively and sharp all night. Not a spectacular performance overall, but some real positives nonetheless.
Another gutsy display from a team that is coming together at last. Off to bed happy. Come on you Rssssssss!
Charlie's goals with some lively commentary:- At 0:20 it almost sounds like "Charlie Austin, cock sucker"
Not so sure about that Killy. I don't think Dunne has the ability any more to pivot and get the ball cleared up the field! Row Z is fine for me and much better than in the back of our net. I thought he did well.
Great result and good performance Whatever has happened it was for the good as the team have woken up A lot better when Fer went central as we closed out the midfield of Villa which grew and dominated the game Nice to see we absorbed it albeit a Villa side who had no teeth but then we did the right things all night by playing long ... Can't do both yet but brilliant move to make Vargas chance He looked very good making striker runs from midfield maybe we have stumbled on something there He was my MOM How we absorb Chelsea and City will be great to watch as we have done both in the past ... It could be murder or we may hold out and get a positive result Brilliant result QPR and credit to Harold ... The row has been great for us ... We needed it
Just playing devils advocate here but maybe Harry's outburst at Adel was a little more pre planned than we thought. He's thrown Adel to the wolves in an effort to get everyone else fired up. Or his outburst was just that but he has used it to his best advantage. I don't necessarily think it myself but just trying to think outside the box re. DT's point of what has happened to us and woken us up.
You may be correct with that Row Z observation - sorry, it wasn't meant to be a negative observation on my part, he keeps the play simple (but is definitely not stupid!) - I also thought he had a good solid game, managed Benteke well, and I would rather see him in the starting line-up at CB above Rio.
I refrained from commenting too early last night, but here are my thoughts We HAD to win the game last night. It was imperative. We got the 3 points, and that's what counts. The performance was pretty awful. The ball was often in the stands, and it looked like a League 1 game the majority of the time. Fer doesn't look comfortable on the wing, and looked stronger once moved centrally. Vargas was completely wasted on the right hand side. I know he got an assist but he's a natural CF and should be starting up top where his work rate and direct running are more impactful. He had to spend a lot of time tracking back last night which is a shame. Yun played well very and won his personal battle. Dunne/Caulker were solid and kept Benteke very quiet, and Isla had his most comfortable game at RB so far. Rob Green needed a big performance and delivered one on the whole. Didn't like the way he parried the ball from Cleverley's effort straight back in front him though. Pleased for Austin, real honest player and his first goal was actually a brilliant finish. His confidence to take the shot on first time was great to see. I think we need a rotation of Austin/Vargas/BZ up top and rest them where appropriate. Team I'd like to see when available would be; McCarthy, Onouha, Caulker, Dunne, Yun; Isla, Fer, Sandro/Henry, Hoillet; Austin/Vargas, Zamora
