I'm not surprised at all, and I'm sitting here quietly confident that Hoddle has been training them in how to play this system properly over the last few weeks (when he has not been on tv) and we are now ready to put it to the test. Redknapp signed players to fit this formation, this had to happen.
But they're all good eggs now so at least there's the potential for a nice frittata. In fairness, most teams will only know one formation so I have no problem if we can make the most of the system. I'd still hope it's a double bluff because it would have been an edge in our preparations over Southampton's had we not announced it with the subtlety of a poster campaign on the South coast.
We should have a blend of players in the squad sufficient to play more than one formation. We have no full-backs.

With Hoilett for Nico if the latter is injured. Though what happens if one of this midfield is injured, who knows.
Happier with Hill on the left side of a 3 than as left back in a 4. There is no proper plan is there?
There is indeed a tactical rethink. We've set the whole team up to cover for Anton Ferdinand. Sorry I meant Rio. Wouldn't it be easier simply to drop him?
I'm no Redknapp apologist, but this maybe completely wrong. We know that 3-5-2 was his preference before the season started. It is not beyond the bounds of believability that this formation was shelved earlier in the season as the players were struggling with it, Hoddle was then brought on board to coach them in how to play this way and now they feel ready to play this way in a match. Pure speculation on my part of course.
With the players we have 3-5-2 makes perfect sense, except for the absence of a left sided CB, no cover at RWB and only 20 minutes worth of striker cover. I'd still prefer that we persevere with it though, as long as it is played 'properly' - pressing high up the pitch, fast and accurate passing, rather than as a way to play a back 5.
