No one has mentioned the fact that QPR might not yet be ready to make Baird an offer either. Perhaps there are other irons in the fire we are still pursuing that would be seen as an acquisition for the longer term. If we cannot get the left back of choice because they are too expensive in terms of a fee and wages or they dont want to come here, then Baird becomes the go to guy once the window is shut. Yes there is a risk that he may go elsewhere, but that is his right as a free agent. I can't get why people get so stressed out with players wanting to hold out for the best deal they can get before committing to a new employer - despite the stupid money being banded around they are still people trying to earn a living with a shorter term employment window than the rest of us.

This attitude to players being grateful when being offered anything reminds me of when I got made redundant the week before Christmas back in 2008. During my first interview at the "Job Centre" the bloke interviewing me took the minimal information from me, asked very little about my past, or my experience and then tried to pigeon hole me into describing the type of job I was after and then turned his computer screen round to me and said "look, here is a good job for you............a customer service agent in Hayes." I looked at him and said that it was not suitable and he looked at me and asked why. I said "The salary is only £20K per year!!" He looked at me incredulously and said "So you have no job and 20K is not enough for you???" I said "Not when I was earning nigh on £60K as a Senior Project Manager up until two weeks ago, I have a wife, three kids and a huge mortgage. If I accept a £20K job now I will be destitute in 6 months." So he agreed that he would mark my records with a note that I would not have to consider roles for less than £50K for 6 months and then I would. Fortunately I was back in work within 3 months. Weekly trips to the Job Centre, certainly a great way to stay motivated to find yourself a new job quickly!!
