Well Distrct Line, it's refreshing to see intelligent banter with Chelsea fans. It's certainly something that wouldn't have happened in the early 80's when I first started going to R's games. You were taking your life into your own hands going to Stamford Bridge back then, it was occasionally like a scene out of 'Braveheart' with the amount of police horses charging around in the street outside, happy days...! From my own (long distant) point of view it's great to see some serious West London derbies happening again, we used to think of Chelsea as the big team down the road who weren't very good, and you weren't. As we cruised into the top flight in 1983, Chelsea survived in the second division by the skin of their teeth (at this point in time Fulham didn't even compute, well okay they finished fourth ;-)). Anyway, times have certainly changed but I have to say it goes against the grain to wish any Chelsea fan good luck. So I'll just say, here's to an entertaining Premiership season and I look forward to October 22nd and April 28th with bated breath!
To be fair we were rubbish in the 80s and most of the 70s. Up until we rebuilt the stadium which nearly sent us bust to the point where we had to sell our best players we actually had one of the best teams in the country, rivalled only by Spurs, Leeds, Everton, Man Utd and towards the 70s Arsenal. Hooliganism was rife in those days, as you say SB was a warzone, as was the Old Den, Upton Park, Baseball Ground, Filbert Street, Old Trafford the list goes on.... Anyways best of luck and I hope you stay up, it's nice to have Fulham and QPR in the PL. Not sure about the home game against you, but I'll probably go to LR providing I get my tickets for the Arsenal home game sorted.
I think its great that all three teams from Hammersmith are up there, pity I'm not there anymore! It's this point in the year I feel the homesickness coming on. Yes, I remember when you guys had Mickey Droy and Joey Jones rumbling around for you lot, a far cry from what you've got now, and I have to say I'm a wee bit jealous. Anyway all the best.
Im not trying to attack QPR... Im sure all our matches with them will be great to watch and I look forward to the atmosphere at both matches.. will try and get to both As for loftus road, its just my opinion that its not the best of grounds but hey, it works for QPR which is what matters. I didnt intend to come across as a sort of a WUM and if I did, I apologise...
No problem mate it's just sometimes things get lost in translation over the net so some QPR fans may take offence. Atmosphere at LR should be decent as we are one of the teams QPR will look forward to playing most as well as Fulham, Man Utd, Liverpool and the usual etc. Sadly the atmosphere at the Bridge isn't what it used to be, we don't even get up for West Ham these days which is a shame as their fans always do when they come to the Bridge. These days in terms of atmosphere the only home games that our fans get up for are United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs, more recently City as well.
We will JUST about stay up this season and the SCUM will get humped by Barca in the Champions League. LMFAO!
