I think modern young people (in the UK at any rate) are more discerning than that. In fact, I think they would prove to be some of the fiercest critics of outrageous views.
I agree mate, his language wasn't the best. What I'm saying, though, is that surely its better to identify them as "religious zealots" or "religious bigots" rather than using "the religious" to include everyone with faith? There is a big difference, he's not being intolerant of people with faith, he's being intolerant of people using their faith based doctrine as a foundation for their bigotry.
Interesting thread to read...I guess for me, what doesn't make sense, and what I guess Joey and many others don't understand, is people who emphasise one element of their faith, but ignore other parts. In Christianity, yeah the Bible says some things are wrong, and shouldn't be done...but it says a heck of a lot more about loving your neighbour, and at the centre of it all, was a guy who spent his days hanging out with prositutes and beggars.

I would love to agree with you mate, but sadly on the streets it isn't always the case. I'm not saying all of the youth in our country of course, but there are a significant number who can and will be influenced by fascist and homophobic views.
I think that young people in the UK today are much more aware of and against racism and homophobia than they were when I was younger. A product of the much-derided political correctness.
Excellent riposte and equally rational. One thing I think we can agree on Willy, is that it'd be in everyone's best interests if Barton kept his big gob shut!
