I have family in syria and its difficult to know whats really happening even from them

Phone calls are made regularly but you have to be 'happy'' and talk generally or risk getting cut off and arrested

Tre is a lot of misinformation, re foreigners doing the fighting, shia sunni conflict in the army etc

The main thing (and I can here the likes of MA and PNP screaming) that seems to be happening is that America /Israel etc dont really want to oust Assad as the alternatives dont suit. so whats being saidpublic isnt what is happening behind the scenes

Of course they want to oust Assad. With Syria out of the way its all gravy as far as striking Iran is concerned. Usual tactic is clear the incumbent government by any means and mop up the ****e after.

Plus a fragmented infighting middle east suits Israel down to the ground as it attempts to exert regional control. A cooperating and coordinated middle east would be a daunting neighbour for Israel.

Thats not the general feeling TBH. who knows what the reality really is.

In the middle east the notion of attacking Iran is a myth too. Its just posturing and will never come to fruition. Or thats the feeling anyway

As for Assad he is a very useful ally. He is basically the minority in Syria and yet holds complete power. Remember this is a guy for whom laws were changed to get him in power. Initially you had to be at least 40 in Syria to rule, he was 34. His brother died in a car accident (who was heir to the throne) and he was put in with complete military control. His being in power wasnt due to him being a brilliant politician

Some think the whole arab spring has caused a negative effect, with people rejecting democracy etc and choosing to go for people like the muslim brotherhood, and with others seeing it in places like libya and thinking we can have it too in places like syria where it wasnt meant to happen.

As I say who knows in reality, the general feeling is though that Assad wouldnt last too long if certain powers didnt want him

I say let the Syria conflict go on as long as possible

Intervention will only lead to them fighting us instead of each other

They hate us regardless of whether we support or oppose a regime

the thing is though 'you' cant afford to let the syrians or any other country get on with it.
the wealth and health of 'you' is dependent on those countries. left to their own devices they would outstrip you in years and show 'ypur' concepts to be false and ultimately flawed

You are an idiot plain and simple. Don't resort to childish digs because some things are beyond your limited comprehension.

<laugh> so what did I say wrong. The bit about much of the "rebels" being Saudi sponsored Sunni wahhabi salifists (basically Al Qaeda)? That the it is basically a proxy war being played out by Western powers as Russia/China wouldn't allow them their UN mandate. Their proxy war isnt working out too well as the anticipated mass defections didn't materialise with a vast majority of the Sunni battalions staying loyal to the government much to the bemusement of the analysts and think tanks.
Now they have resorted to a false flag incident, the mortar in Turkey, to try and allow NATO to get in there. Last time I checked the Syrian army didn't control the border area and yet we're supposedly able to get a shirt range mortar into Turkey. Wouldn't be the first time the "rebels" killed innocent civilians and blamed it on the govt to try and get government intervention, e.g. Daraa massacre.
Notice the consternation over the killing of some Turkish villagers but no mention of the deaths of dozens of civilians by car bombs in Aleppo yesterday. According to the Americans such indiscriminate bombs are terrorist atrocities, or is that only when it is not against the people we don't like.
