But I don't think anyone is refusing to see that not playing Van Aanholt was the right thing to do. All that is being said is that Moyes' reaction to the question made it appear like he was being deliberately evasive and that suggested that he had something to hide.
Sunderland’s Van Aanholt opens up on health after being pulled from Tottenham clash SUNDERLAND defender Patrick van Aanholt has insisted he is fully fit after he was pulled out of the defeat at Tottenham on medical advice. David Moyes admitted earlier today he withdrew the defender from the team on the advice of a heart specialist. But Van Aanholt has now insisted there is nothing to worry about and he will be fit for tomorrow’s EFL Cup clash with QPR. "I was indeed surprised, because there is really nothing to worry about," Van Aanholt told Dutch outlet Voetbal International. "I've been sick last week. I picked up a virus and that would have crept around my body, possibly even to my heart. "So we had to make a scan, but the scan is offered late or too late at the FA and therefore I had to sit in the stands. “I felt nothing in my heart, I'm just fit. "I understand that the media story will blow up, but nothing quite beats it. I play tomorrow."
Stop the Moyes bashing me thinks, give the bloke a chance and get behind the club. Too much negative whinging again.
Moyes needs to help himself, he needs to be more positive, more encouraging and give a bit of protection to some players. That's all I'm saying in the matter, he retains my full support.
I tend to agree with this Nads.... Moyes is an experienced, good manager, however at the moment he is like Fraser off Dads Army "We're Doomed I tell you" He really needs to lead from the front and be more positive, negativity really is contagious,
I don't mind a slice of humble pie, i was one who said it could have been handled better and i still maintain it could have been. In hindsight the club were right to take him off, but imo, it should have been handled by one of the coaching staff, medical staff, or Moyes. Either way, they got him off and all is well.
How do you know it wasn't? Coaching staff aren't allowed on the pitch during the final warm up so they would have had to send a player to go and get them in. Seems people are just amusing he was told there and then on the pitch. I think it's likely he was told to go and see the coaching staff by Denayer and nothing else. What's the chances a football club is sending a brand new loan signing out to deliver medical news to another player minutes before kick off. I'd say there's little chance of that imo.
From the way that Denayer was pointing at himself it looked like he was saying "I'm playing instead of you, you'll have to get off the pitch the boss wants you". I personally never thought he'd been tasked with breaking the news about his heart, that really would be odd.
Absolutely. If it was confidential they certainly wouldn`t be telling the other players. "Go and see the boss" is the most it was likely to be.
Well, yeah, he'd have to have told him that, it was minutes from kick off. Not sure how the coaching staff could have done anything else to get that message to him.
I think so. I mean as Nacho said, Denayer will have told him he's been replaced, kick off was imminent, how else could we have got the message to him? But I don't doubt the reasoning came from coaching staff. Not a clue how else the message could have been given.
Yeah if the coaching staff aren't allowed on at that point then it was the only way to do it and nothing was done wrong there. The way it happened added to the mystery at the time but in retrospect it was just routine.
You know what. I think PVA would have played if the information would have been made available earlier. Timing was certainly an issue to Moyes and it turns out it wasn't serious at all.
I just think most jumped the gun. Me included. Then with Daves interview, it was lile a Scooby Doo mystery at the time.
I think the mystery may have been from him not knowing the legality at the point of sharing what could be classed as patient confidentiality. I mean, he was told just before kick off and questioned not long after it. Moyes himself probably won't have had time to be briefed on what he could say. As he said, that's never happened to him before so maybe it was as simple as not knowing what info he could share at that point in time.
He is weak with the Media though. After Dick and Big Sam, who were very very strong at handling the press, the contrast with Moyes is very visible. Fortunately it's not the be all of end all.
