There just seems to be a lot of assumption that Moyes is an absolute ****ing idiot. Regardless of the situation or its outcome, the assumption seems to be that Moyes has handled it like a clown.
Not from me though. I said he'd have genuine reason for it and it certainly looks like he has. Handled it well IMO. Done what he had to do - Van Aanholt looked OK because he thought he was - but when I saw him on the bench I thought there must be more to it than "I've decided not to play him" as he didn't look as pissed off as he did before the game - I still reckon Denayer has said "Mate I've on in your place - think the gaffer needs to have a word" to which Van Aanholt was rightly pissed off until he hears that his cardio screening results have shown up a problem then he changes his attitude to not playing.
He certainly acted strangely for a man with nothing to hide. When he was asked about it if he'd said "we had some last minute medical information about Patrick and for his own safety we needed to keep him off the pitch for further checks" then nobody would have reacted with suspicion. Instead he just gave him a weird death stare. He brings it on himself sometimes.
I'm not sure why it was left down to Denayer to tell PVA? Regardless of what has happened, that could have been handled better.
I suppose it all depends on what Denayer said - it was close to kick off so they had to make sure that the ref was aware first and get the correct paperwork filled in (from what my mate who works at Boro tells me when they had an injury before kick off) then the player gets informed. Which brings us close to kick off for all intents and purposes, one of Moyes' minions should really have done it (coaches/backroom staff) but I can;t imagine PVA's reaction being any different no matter who tells him
It would have been better if a coach had gone over and told him off the pitch in private. Getting the player who was replacing him to go over and tell him like that was unprofessional.
A coach goes on and says "We need a chat in private" the player says "I'll finish my warm up" and has a heart attack whilst warming up? Perhaps the only way to tell him was this way in order to ensure he made a speedy exit so they could sort whatever was potentially wrong? Like I say, no-one knows - I don;t see it as unprofessional at all - I see it as making a call and having to get someone who's on the pitch to tell him - namely the player replacing him. Van Aanholt didn;t mind when he was sat on the bench - you could see he wasn;t the pissed off fella he was pre kick-off
I'm pretty sure if a coach goes to a player and says stop what you're doing I need a word then the player doesn't say no I'm finishing my warm up. Maybe it's just his resting face but PVA looked pissed off as **** to me the couple of times the camera was in him during the match.
Well my view is the FA have had one over on us again. When did they have this information? When did PVA have this heart check? I had a heart attack last year and was put on an ECG machine to clarify my symptoms and the medics had that result instantly. Perhaps PVA didn't have an ECG?. Why leave it till 35 minutes, before kick off to tell the club? This threw the match preparations down the pan, instead of us moaning about how Moyes and the club handled this our attention should be directed at those within the FA who had this information and left it till the last minute to do something about it. However if it turns out he had this check up at WHL and everything happened in a very small time scale then feel free to ignore all that I've said previously.
I know mate I'm just trying to make the point that A) you shouldn't get a player to tell another player he's dropped regardless of circumstances and B) there were several reasons to suggest that there was some weird bullshit coming from Moyes, he straight up looked like he was lying about it. If I draw a conclusion from that it doesn't mean that I will jump on Moyes at every opportunity.
Agree. FA doing is no favours again. Bunch of idiots. They must have known these results for a while, why put the lad in this dreadful position. This is not Moyes fault or the clubs fault, they had no choice.
Moyes should have told him personally, not leave it to the players to communicate during the warm up. That was the part that was poorly handled IMO.
What you getting banned for? Did you request it or have you been told you're being banned because of the scab rat?
I agree he should have been told by an official and Moyes was definetely looking as though there was something fishy but PVA would be naturally worried by this news
On the BBC website half an hour ago (sorry can't paste it on here) but the FA are virtually saying the exact opposite to the David Moyes version given at this mornings press conf. They do have cardiac experts and put players first in any health issue, but the are saying they had no contact with SAFC over this issue. The plot thickens.
Sounds like a middle man issue to me. I can only assume that when Moyes says the fa only informed him within 5 minutes of kickoff, it was actually the contracted medical company to the Premier League who were late with the information. Anyway, having to pull him out with 5 minutes to go and Moyes having to seek permission, tells me he was run off his feet in that 5 minutes and coached won't have been allowed on the pitch at that point. Getting a message out to PVA to come in will have been the only way. There's nothing what so ever to say he was told by a player of the full situation. I imagine the message was something along the lines of 'you've been pulled mate, you need to go and see a member of the coaching staff straight away' where he'll have been told. He'll have been informed of the situation first chance but clearly time was against us. I just hope he's alright. You could see his mind was racing when it showed him bench. Poor lad.
