A very very good player that is versatile, who knows he could have a world class season for us. In Britain fans are somewhat cut off from knowing the full ability of foreign players unless they devote themselves to watching seriea a la liga bundesliga etc because we just tend to focus on our game alone. But Cazorla is bordering on a top class player and the fact that he can play in both midfield or in a 3 up front will be a major boost. Also if the deal for sahin goes through then we have aquired two top class players for the coming season.

Where do you think Ramsay fits into the equation? Seems to be coming back into form in time for the start of the season with the GB team.

Well he's going to have to fight for his place now. Not just get straight into the team whenever someone picks up an injury.

I think we'll probably see a change of formation if RVP leaves and Cazorla and Sahin deals get finalised

Here's a chain of thought on Cazorla.

Villareal, with Cazorla, Champions League 4 years from 5.

    Malaga without Cazorla, finished 9th.

    Villareal LOSE Cazorla, relegated.

    Malaga GAIN Cazorla, CL football.

Malaga signed a few, but Cazorla was the man, Toulalan was excellent in patches, Van Nistelrooy, Buananotte & Mathijsen were largely unimpressive.

Could you define world class as the ability of an individual to drag a team up an extra level or 2 on his own, cos I certainly think Santi did that at Malaga last season

    I agree.

That also gives me an idea for a thread.

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/145209-Definition-of-World-Class

I started a wonderful thread (I thought so anyway) on the definition of a World Class player... Somehow it got 63 views and not a single reply. <whistle>

Either my view of it was so perfect that no one argued with me, or my thread was just useless... Anyway, I think it's relevant to this discussion. <ok>

I might as well post it here:

What does World Class mean to you?

Personally, I think it means that a player would walk into just about any team in the world, unless that team also has a world class player in the same role. So to be fair I reckon that a player can only be considered world class if he was one of the top 3-5 players on the planet, for his position.

In our squad (I'm an United fan clearly), I'd say that Vidic and Rooney are the two players that could be considered world class.

Fans might argue that players like Valencia and Nani are world class too... But I believe that Valencia is a world class "pure" winger, the type that beats his man on the outside and whips a cross in.

But there are other wide players that would probably be considered better than him, such as Ribery and Robben (and obviously Ronaldo), but they are different types of players to him. So if a world XI was picked I think the wide right position would contain a player such as Ronaldo/Robben/Ribery before Valencia, but in his specific role on the wing (as a 'pure' winger) I think he can be classed as world class in that limited sense.

So I think there is a distinction. A world class striker would be one of the top 5 or so strikers, regardless of their specific style of play. But a striker who does not make that list might well be classed as a "world class target man", "world class poacher" etc.

I agree with that, and that applies exactly to Cazorla.

That's a bit silly. By that logic any team that employs Lee Bowyer, Lee Hughes, John Terry, Luke McCormick and any other generally scummy people are therefore scum. Some of yours down the years have hardly been angels either.

You think he would walk into Barca and Madrid? Why are you lot the only ones in for him at such a cheap price then?

Not intending to wum but would this not be a bit of a sideways move both in terms of club and wage packet? The more good players in the league the better but it just seems a strange one to me.

Well in the case of Barcelona - that should be obvious if you know anything about spanish football.

In the case of Real Madrid, it should also be obvious. If you already have players on superstar contracts you can't upgrade them, even if you could, or you end up in Man City's situation with strikers.

Sorry but you're very deluded if you think he'd get into Barca or Madrid. Answer the 2nd part, why are you lot able to get him so cheap and why are other teams not in for him?

Madrid have a top class midfield already, why do you think they're allowing Sahin to leave? as for Barca, they don't need him either as they're fully equipped on the attacking midfield front.

By your stupid logic, just because a major team doesn't go for a top quality player, it means he isn't top quality, yeah, nice logic there buddy. And correction, a major team has gone for Cazorla, that major team is called ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB.

You're a ****ing idiot. I have not once said he isn't a world class player, you lot are just so deluded you think he'd get into the two best teams on earth. He's a winger btw, not a midfielder like Sahin. Your last line is the lamest thing I've seen anyone type, I didn't say Arsenal weren't a major team - I said why haven't OTHER TEAMS gone for him.
