Apparantly Methven was not at the game today due to being on a family holiday. Is ten weeks off pre-season not long enough to go on holiday?
please log in to view this image The West Stand today. This is shocking and another sign of how two bob this lot are. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get this rectified.
It’s a big two weeks for Gavin Carter. He’s had some very blunt feedback on Twitter (including from me) about the SMT’s performance, and Methven’s future at the club. You can only hope that Friedman, Bremner & Co are looking at the league table tonight, and asking Carter WTF is going on. It seems all but inevitable now that they are going to be asked to fund the losses in league one for season 25/26 as well. This is where we are missing out so much by not having a proper football man advising the owners. The likes of Alan Curbishley could now tell the Americans how & why we are falling so short, and what needs to be done to rectify it. Instead we’ve got that slippery ex Sunderland clown looking to extend the deals for Potts & Hylton.
Apparently Carter lives in Canada but is over for loads of games. However, he's not in SE7 24/7 and is detached from 'everyday life'. Ffs, I know that as I'm 4000 miles away myself.
Adams and Scott have gone missing leaving Charlie boy to open his trap, this he loves of course. His PR and Eton background will let him TRY and paint pictures. My South East London council background says "f*** off you c***"
More lies from Charlie at the meeting. More floodlights going out at each home game. More fans not going to games, 12,999 yesterday(15,200 average) my . X players being sold in January? They have not said "there will not be our leading players leaving". They are praying Jones flukes it and gets us up this season. F*** 'em
The fewer floodlights they use, the harder it is to see how mediocre we are on the pitch. And they days are getting longer
Charlotte & the other guy were not up to it - Methven is more slippery than a barrel full of eels coated in Vaseline. I would have enjoyed being the adjudicator on Thursday evening, Methven got away with porky murder.
A big 5 days coming up for the clueless SMT & the US billionaires. They have been gifted the opportunity of an unexpected promotion, and the opportunity to flip the club & all disappear having made money. Nobody bar Mundell & “Charles Hawtrey” (Seriously Red) really believes this lot have the ability to finance a football club in the Championship. All they need do now to all but guarantee a play off spot is buy a couple of decent players this week. A striker & a No.10. First team starters, not squad stocking fillers.
We will be torn to pieces in the Championship. Plymouth's season will look like a picnic compared to the hammerings we will take, week in, week out. There didn't used to be a huge quality gap between the 2nd & 3rd tiers, but in recent years it has widened a lot.
Spot on @lardiman IF we are promoted, the investors will look to flip the club IMO. If Methven is to be believed, always a big if, the Us billionaires are spending £9m a year on us in L1. Even allowing for increased media payments and sponsorship /attendances in the Championship, the owners & SMT would have to double that to a minimum of £18m a year, just to stay competitive. Let’s not forget that the last time we were promoted to the Championship 5 years ago, an uncompetitive budget quickly saw us disappear even faster than Seriously Red trying on a medium-sized new Crombie.
100%. If we got promoted the investors will grab whatever they're offered and scarper. God only knows who CAFC would end up belonging to. You can guarantee it wouldn't be anyone willing to invest £20m in the squad. Which is the minimum it would need for consolidation in the Championship. Let alone running costs and wages. Birmingham and Wrexham will struggle even with their resources. I fear for Wycombe as I would for us. That is a merciless league. The last time we were there and held our own (on the pitch, not financially) it was under Powell over a decade ago. Things have changed so much since then it might as well be a lifetime ago. CAFC has been left behind. Asset-stripped. Allowed to wither on the vine. If there is to be a brighter future it will have to come completely out of the blue. Because there are no signs of it coming from any existing parties or players around the Club.
Call me naive, but I believe the future of the club is in more peril in L1 than if we get promoted, so I hope we do go up. I'm not privy to the club's finances, or to the intentions of the owners, they're far too secretive, but the idea of "flipping" the club seems to have the flaw that they would have to get back considerably more than they have put into it, for that cunning plan to be of any use. The club + assets was valued at 25-30m a few years ago, and they would have to get all of that just for the club, which is worth next to nothing.
We need to go up to increase revenue, that has to be obvious. The longer we stay in the third division the worse things will get.
I reckon the US mob are in for around £20m to date - the sale price to Thomas the Syrup was widely reported to be around £11m, plus one year’s operating costs to date of around £9m. So it’s not inconceivable they could flip us as a London Championship club for £25m plus, and make a tidy profit.
It’s not inconceivable in the Championship, and that’s what Methven & GFP are banking on. They clearly don’t have the resources to sustain us at a higher level , IMO.
To my mind whether we stay in League One or go up, we're rogered either way. I suppose going up will generate some fond memories at least, like Wembley 2019 did.
