Non-Executive Chair of the Board: Gavin Carter Chief Executive Officer: Charlie Methven Managing Director: James Rodwell Group Finance Director: Ed Warrick Vice Chairman of the Board: Paul Elliott CBE MBE Nothing else has changed other than Carter’s position.
I’ve just seen the readout of the call between Friedman & Methven last night after the Lincoln game. JF: “We are 12th in the table Charlie. We promised the fans a promotion challenge. Things have got to change. What do you suggest?” CM: “Err ….lets throw Rodwell under the bus next”
Interesting that the retired VOTV flogger is floating the idea of an eventual land deal between our Belgian landlord & whichever rag tag and bobtail outfit happens to be owning the football side at the time. Many of us have long predicted that this was the end game for these people.
A deal to move Charlton Athletic away from the Valley so Duchatelet can develop the land? Bad move. Will not end well for anyone involved.
I called it early on, Dushitelet was never interested in the grass, only the land. It was no coincidence that he kept the land when peanut head surfaced. I was continually told it will never happen, the times are changing. Very sad.
I’d love to know what Hawtrey did in the 80s during our exile at Selhurst. Probably started writing a pamphlet from his garden shed, claiming that Ron Noades was our saviour & a football pioneer.
"They can move the chairs around the room as much as they like but the bottom line is they are all as clueless as each other". A classic from Ivor yesterday, he includes Methven but does not name him, he certainly cannot resemble a dog, dogs are loyal.
As Elfs is too lazy to explain it ..here’s the long held theory , which I personally don’t believe is far fetched. The club continues to shrink to such an extent that whoever owns the football side say they cannot justify us continuing at the Valley. Last week’s 5,500 turnstile count v Crawley is a sure sign of where we are heading, The SMT tells the landlord that they can no longer afford the Duke of Kent, the Duchatelet family trust agrees to this in return for mothballing the Valley, The football side moves out, to groundshare and reduce costs. It’s happened to us several times before, so it’s not far fetched, After a couple of years of mothballing, the landlord approaches Greenwich Council, who are under huge pressure don’t forget from Starmer to build houses, and proposes the Valley as part of a regeneration around an area that is within walking distance of Charlton station.
^^^^ The first sign of the above happening will be when the SMT closes a Stand for a league game on cost grounds. I looked at the West Stand last Tuesday night and there can’t have been 500 in there ..and the East was the same.
It’s being reported elsewhere that one of the investors wants out. This would not surprise me if true. Billionaires don’t become billionaires by having their short trousers pulled down. They must know by now that Methven has bluffed them.
Are they investors - or lenders? Maybe a combination of both. Trouble ahead if it's beginning to unravel. Can't see how any new investors could be attracted with the way things are going.
