Some of the comments are so streotypical its actually funny. What on earth do some of you say to your daughters/wives/sisters or girlfriends when they have achieved something of merit? Or is that different when its your relative? If it was your daughter who'd scored that goal and been nominated might you think differently or would you say well done love but you're only up there to tick a box cos you have a vagina. What a load a bollocks some of you chat. Its a fantastic goal regardless of any variable.

I really don't get your stance here. You seem to think that I shouldn't be suspicious of the process used to come up with these three goals. I've explained why I'm suspicious but you appear to just read it as woman-hating bile. You're obviously quite intelligent, it shouldn't be hard for you to see the point being made for what it is.

OK let me rephrase that they have no pressure to win, but they would be nervous about the amount of people watching as they aren't used to it. Top players are used to this so aren't affected by it their game wouldn't become worse just because they are desperate to win, look at Steven Gerrard in big games in the past he doesn't feel the pressure if anything he plays better for it.

I think the point most are trying to make is that if you consider all levels of football and all the goals that have been scored over the last 12 months then that goal is not amongst the top 3 (with the caveat that the goal has to have been filmed). The exact same argument can be applied to the two World Cup goals- I don't doubt that better have been scored. Therefore you need to think about why they've been selected above all other filmed goals in the last 12 months, for Rodriguez and Van Persie we can assume it's because of the competition they were scored in, the quality of the opposition and the importance of the match. For the other goal what's the reason? It's difficult to think of a reason other than it was scored by a woman.

I'm with BCC who said earlier in the thread, I'm not against that, if there's an agenda to increase the profile of the woman's game then what a great way to do it and I don't doubt it will succeed as I'm sure she'll win (and again, am not against that, of the three goals I think it probably is the best) but to suggest any footballer at any level has not scored a better goal than this in the last 12 months is in my opinion inaccurate.

Jonjo Shelvey, Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley both scored some excellent goals this year didn't they?

Two from almost the halfway line and one junking through the entire opposition team and slamming it home on the weak foot from a tight angle.

Why aren't they there? Because they're English and fifa doesn't like the English.

It's the same sort of process at work, just in reverse.

FIFA goal of the season. Who gives a ****.

    A pointless award.

And for the record. I've seen many a better goal than that on a sunday league pitch. Shocking defending anarl.

So you say there's no reason that a goal scored by a woman shouldn't be in there but then you are annoyed when a goal by a woman is in there because you think it's down to positive discrimination. So we should get you to decide who's goals are worthy now? You don't think that they saw it and thought it was a great goal so they should put it in? There are better goals than the other 2. So what. Vote for one, vote for none. Or just say yes great goal regardless of who scored it and where they scored it.

Remember people were calling Lamela's rabona goal the best goal ever. No sign of that.

    Forgot about that.

Easily better than all 3 of the goals on show.

It was scored after the shortlist for this award was announced, I think.

Having a Goal of the Year and shortlisting it before the year ends is a bloody ridiculous idea anyways.

there has to be a simple way to give the initial panel a chance to pick a shortlist - so goals scored in showcase matches should be at the forefront - even if its at the expense of a better taken goal .
that a wonder goal scored in Botswana's 2nd tier is omitted to allow a WC goal will only be noticed by a few and for that reason wont cause a sniff of controversy .
The inclusion of the goal by the Irish lass is totally acceptable if the decide to include 1 goal is from the womans game everytime to help promote the game there .

All said i dont like tokenism and the goal isnt on the list as an equal unfortunately

Shouldn't there have been a goal by a black player as well?

    Are fifa being racist?

It's not even that good of a goal. There have been far better ones in the Prem this season.

How do you know its not there on merit? Just on here most people don't agree on which goals should have been shortlisted.
