I give up arguing with you.

    1. PRE-SEASON

    2. They were chanting that they were going to go on the pitch if he scored anyway, so the stewards took it as a joke.

    3. This stuff never happens in the PL, so the argument that this makes watching football **** is invalid.

He was trying to get the women steward in a headlock. Obviously she gave it to him as well and good on her.

They didn't have enough stewards the reports have said and the police apparently told one of the local papers the invasion was good natured fun which most people on here have agreed with.

Most people don't give up arguing then put across a weak counterargument...

To sum it up for me

    1. Sammy scores
    2. Pitch invasion, everyone's loving it
    3. Most come of within a few seconds, certain majority think it's a good idea to stay on.
    4. Certain majority kick off with another certain majority
    5. Police step in and it kicks off some more
    6. Eventually settles and game starts again

Lighthearted heat of the moment fun that turned nasty when some idiots saw it as more than that.

Was trying to make the point about the Stewards having the same point as you and most people on here not who was arguing with who.

Weak? Most people agree. OK, I will explain.

It is pre-season, meaning the match was only there for match fitness, which they got. The fact that most people on here thought the invasion was 'good natured fun' backs up what I said when we say that they should not get people who didn't do any violence banned for it.

It would be unfair to get banned for meaningful matches because you jokingly invaded a non-meaningful game. If they do, then it's probably because of people like you.

Yet another well thought out and erudite response.
    <doh>

From what I have read ask the stewards mentioned above if it was a laugh.

And just for info I have been a season ticket holder at the Toon probably longer than you have been born judging by your educated replies so far

That makes no sense whatsoever. Yes, a light hearted run on the pitch is fine, a bit of fun, etc etc. But since as usual this ended up with arrests, a female steward being attacked, and at least one injury (and those aren't from reports, I witnessed both with my own eyes) clearly its not a good thing, and thats the reason why if anyone did it at SJP they'd be looking at a lengthy ban. The fact that it happened at a meaningless game is completely irrelevant. I'm not calling for everyone to be banned, I'm just calling them idiots, and cowardly idiots at that for going for the mob rule 'I won't be caught cos theres loads of us' mentality.

    I agree with this.

I say all who remained after the police stepped in are the ones who should be liable to punishment.

Fair enough, but you say 'as usual'. This stuff hardly happens.

They aren't cowardly, because they went on the pitch because it was a bit of fun, and you all chanted that you would raid the pitch if he scored. You probably chanted with them. People have said that most people came back to their seat after a minute or so, which is fair enough, no?

EDIT - DurhamDynamo - People are saying that they should be banned regardless of if they stayed on the pitch when the police came or not. Which I disagree with.

And because it hardly happens its fine? Your logic is absolutely bollocks.

They're cowardly because they wouldn't dare do the same thing at a club with CCTV, adequate stewarding etc. Chanting isn't banned anywhere, crossing the line onto the pitch is, and once you've got an unpoliceable number of people on a pitch violence will take place in the middle of it and its difficult to deal with, which is why its banned in the first place. Those who returned to their seats haven't committed a crime (merely broken the rules at the ground which is still punishable), but they've made it really easy for those who want to cause trouble to do so.

Have a look at some of the comments under the YouTube video.

So long as we have dickheads like that among our 'supporters', a "good natured" invasion of the pitch just really isn't a possibility is it?

There was a clear picture in the Sun, and the lads involved are in a lot of trouble I reckon.

The one on the floor is a Darlo fan, he ran into the toon end and then on the pitch.
Got exactly what he was looking for.

I don't even know why it's even went so OTT anyway.

Everyone forgot about the brum pitch invasion and that was much worse.

I never said that. You say 'as usual' but it hardly happens. If you say 'as usual', then you are implying it happens often.
