Most WMC's, British Legion Clubs, Labour, Liberal and Conservative Clubs will be probably gone within the next 20 years or so. There'll only be a handful left in, say 40 years time, if that.

That's not to say it's a good thing or a bad thing.

It's just life. Things come and go. We don't have C&A, Wimpy Burgers, Woolworths, Dixon or steam trains any more.

Clubs are a relatively recent addition to the fabric of English society. The local Inn, alehouse, coach house has been around for a millennium.

I can accept that clubs may close, but, just being admittedly selfish here, losing village pubs is a greater loss to our wider national character.

Losing any pub is a reason for a 3 day national mourning imo.
 
I rarely went to a club to drink. Ones near to me were drab affairs.

Always favoured the pubs for beer, banter and birds and the occasional games of pool. Then different pubs for a few quiet ones and dominoes with me old man.

You mentioned C & A there - the ex wife was flumuxed when they closed she didn't know which way to put her knickers on luckily M& S brought out a range that she liked

OK mush, don't tar everyone with the same paintbrush! I love a game of doms, I was playing right up till 7 tonight, and my overgrown white beard got me a lot of "Santa Clause is in the house" on Friday night, but I ain't ****ing old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's not many 'old fashioned' drinking pubs left anymore mate, sadly.

The drinking element of most modern day pubs is just a sideline, food is their main income now. Just a sign of the times mate.

Aye, you're right.
Glasgow used to have loads of "howff" pubs up there.
A lot of them are gone now.
One time men would go out for a few beers & sat in the bar & had a natter with lots os swearing.
The women would sit in the lounge.
Now it's just families & food.

Last year there was a statistic released by some clever twat that stated something like 2.4 pubs going to the wall throughout the UK each week. It's not hard to see why either when the likes of Asda are chucking out 24 can for a tenner.

Personally i rarely drink beer at home, get sloshed most nights on red wine like, but i prefer to have a pint in a pub.

What's the roughest bars you've been in?
For me three spring to mind.
Ibrox bar Belfast - you go in do not tell them you're Catholic.
The Grapes on Paisley Rd West Glasgow.
The Viceroy on the same street. - was the only one in there one time & saw a stack of pool cues inthe corner.
I asked the barman if he fancied a quick game. "Oh we haven't got a pool table mate, lol.

Kids in pubs fine - but should be on condition that they are chained to the parents. Can't stand the attitude of parents who get on with their own thing and leave the kids to treat the place like a playground.
This puts me off a pub moreso than anything to do with indoor smoking, prices, food quality. loud music etc

The pubs by mine are all good, always really busy. They all put football on, the main one doesn't let kids in, has 6 big screens and doesn't serve food. Makes a killing when United or City are on the tele and steady the rest of the time. Always have to behave in there or they'll ban you for life. Bar maids are funny, won't stand for any **** though.

Kids can **** off to the Harvester or Weatherspoons for all I care, they're not even pubs, just boring rooms where you can get a **** pint and stared at by chavs.

I went in a pub at Motherwell once, it was called Kelly's but was a Celtic fans bar. This bloke I had met says whatever you do dont tell them your religion. ffs I didnt know if it was Celtic or Rangers who were protestant or catholic.
What a dilemma that f*cking was if I had been asked. It was bad enough being English in there.

It was still a proper spit n sawdust pub tho. Even better I never had to pay for a drink. Always found the Scottish people very generous. Well at least when it comes to drink.

The Hawkhill Tavern on the Perth road in Dundee was a mean boozer as well. That was a proper Jeremy Kyle audition clientele in there but superb once you had a few gargles with them.
