Close enough to the answer I was looking for, which was - singing out of tune in public in North Carolina is against the law & is punishable by jail sentence. Apologies to Bob Dylan, but I have always thought that 'singing' doesn't describe what he does...

Correct. Benskins also took over Wells, but then were taken over themselves. In 1972 the last pint was brewed by them in Watford.
