I said it was a bit geeky, so another clue. Think about other more modern uses of the name of the spear bearers daughter, that name links geographically with the other half of the question.

OK, here is the answer&#8230;Spear bearers daughter was Nike, which is the name chosen by a now very famous sporting goods company. Development of the modern CRO was by a man called Howard Vollum who formed a company on the back of that called Tektronix. Both Nike and Tektronix have their world HQ's in Beaverton Oregon&#8230;yeah, I know, but I did say it was very geeky.

OK - A more simple question&#8230;.What famous company used to be based in Fleetville, near St.Albans and what a sad day in the decline of their products!
 
Marconi took over this factory at Fleetville when the bottom fell out of the market for this company - an unfortunate change in fashion caused it's demise

Yes - the churchyards of the three villages each have Yew trees thought to be around 5000 years old - the oldest in Europe. The one in Fortingall is rumoured to have been the site of Pontius Pilate's birth.
