A common sight in the UK until the mid 1970s, the last one was in use until 2015.

No - although there was a very loose connection.

I remember one of these in Watford in the early 1980s - never saw one after that. The last one in the UK was used in Reading.

No - an indoor thing. The one I saw in Watford was in Clements, but there may have been others.
