Getting there. In rough figures, the UK's second city Birmingham has a population of 1 million whilst London has 9 million. That allows London to be known as a '....... city'. Neither Brisbane nor Hobart, the largest cities in Queensland and Tasmania can be called that because?

Is it to do with having a cathedral ?

    Irrelevant aside ...
As I understand it, in order to be significant as a place, you have to have a University & an airport. Hence Carlisle is significant ! Shame about the football team though.

No - it's all to do with comparative population size.

Something to do with being a ''Primate'' city which is to have a population over 9 times bigger than its closest competitor within a state ?

That's it - although one of the definitions I've seen requires the largest city within a state's population to be more than three times as large as that of the second largest city.

    Over to you.

Cheers BB. This is a criminal offense in 4 states of the USA , banned by statute in another 20, but completely legal in 11 others. Jesse James would have been guilty as would Albert Einstein, Queen Victoria, Buddha Gautama and Saddam Hussein. A criminal offense in China but not in the UK. What is it ?

All yours Andy. Called consanginious marriage (or some other long word) - some states stipulate degrees of consanguinity where second cousin or closer is considered as being within the danger zone others ban all cousin marriages. Queen Elizabeth and Philip were just outside the danger zone at second cousin once removed. Strangely enough there are no laws on this in the UK - just recommendations.

    Thanks, cologne. <ok>

Why are we all of a sudden going to use our tongues in a laminal shape to produce a voiceless alveolo-palatal sibilant affricate?

Anything to do with our new head coach? It appears that doing that will produce a sound made in the Croatian language.

Yes, that's it, BB. It's the 'ch' sound at the end of Bilić. The laminal bladed tongue is when it works in a line, in this case into the roof of the palate, the rest is to do with a blocking of air passage at the palate, then sudden release of the air into the teeth to make a sound that does not involve the vocal chords.
    All yours. <ok>

Yes - the curator of the Australian National Sports Museum stated "the word Bodyline carries the stench of underhand or unsportsmanlike behaviour" - whereas the curator of the MCC museum described it as above.
