This may be a bit difficult. When I set the question I incorrectly thought I had read it on the BBC. I hadn't. The origin of the story came from the Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News and then got taken up by other media.
The treasure is archeological. What sort of archeological treasure would make someone think that having it would send them to Hell?
