yes good enough:

ON Christmas Day and Boxing Day 1930 the club drew 2-2 with Walsall both at home and away. Watford fielded the same side in both games, and they were the only two occasions on which the eleven ever played together.

It is Roman - and they did conquer most of Britain. It's generally thought that Hadrian's Wall was the extent of the Roman reach, but that's not the case. The fishing village I live in was formerly a Roman port, my house is actually built on the site of the Roman fort that protected the port. Five miles from here there are the remains of an amphitheatre, where prisoners and lions reputedly provided local entertainment - and around ten miles away is a hill thought by some researchers to be the site of the battle of Mons Graupius.

But no, the answer isn't Paulanus - far more famous. And his defeat actually happened in Egypt....
