    Thought I'd bring this back to life seeing as we have no football at the moment.
    Which is the only continental member state of the European Union which is not a member of NATO ? Extra points if you know why.

    Austria is correct BB. After World War 2 Austria was jointly occupied by the Americans, French, British and Russians from 1945 until 1955 - in contrast to everywhere else the Soviets did not try to incorporate their zone into the Warsaw pact. The 4 allied powers left Austria in 1955 upon the Austrian State Treaty of that year where the country voluntarily signed a treaty of permanent neutrality - which still applies. Over to you.
