The band Procol Harum actually came from the Richmond area, but the leading light, Gary Brooker, came from Southend - where he had previously fronted The Paramounts (funny how you remember such things after 50 years - if pressed, I could probably even sing their one and only hit 'Poison Ivy'). And yes, their manager named them after a friend's Burmese cat - although he misspelt it....
