Used to enjoy Woolton Village, West Derby (starting off at The Bulldog and finishing at the Jolly Miller) and Wavertree when I was a lad. When I first moved to York and lived in the city centre, there was some outstanding crawls to be had here (quite expensive though). I don't drink anymore (medical reasons) so I normally do the driving for the family now, and my sister lives in West Derby: driving past Barry's in the village a few Chrimbos ago the place was cordoned off and surrounded by police vans. Some dude had been kneecapped - on Christmas day. Barry's was considered 'classy' in my day, with fit models and uber-babes starting off the night before they went off into town. I'll leave it to you young fellers, I think.
The Barry's is no big licks these days donga, the Sevvy is best in the summer when its wall to wall fur pie. The new boozer here is what used to be the TSB back in the day, loads of pics of the Eagle, the Boundary, the Bluey, the Hilly and the Bow in there, All gone but all fondly remembered. Used to go down the high street on a decent crawl years ago but its not the same these days.
Which fine establishments you used to frequent in York Donga?? Had a few crawls in the city centre there myself
I lived by the Cock and Bottle, so every one started and finished there. Usually took in the Kings, Three cranes, The Golden Fleece, The Hussar, Corner pin, Maltings, the then Northern Wall, The Starre, Windmill, Cross Keys, Black Swan... and that one round the corner of the Northern Wall whose name escapes me. The Cock and Bottle was my front room - I didn't need Sky for years. The landlord, Don, always had some sound lock-ins for Sunday afternoon games during the old licensing hours. Happy days (but not, evidently, for my liver).
