Thanks for the generalisation, that's what I expect from the "keep Britain white and christian" brigade.

Care to explain how his racist stereotyping of Scots helps a discussion on this article which is nothing at all to do with Scotland?

Also, care to explain how, considering the events of last weekend, this type of thread is now acceptable given that it's clearly meant to be provocative, and is asking to start an argument on religion, specifically Islam?

    You don't think calling a thread "Provocative" isn't actually....a little....stay with me....provocative?

Did the bit where Aggro links an article, in a thread with the previously mentioned word in, then uses the word "mental" at the end isn't offering an opinion?

You say strange, but I say interesting. I realise we can't all agree on all things, but I honestly never expected you to defend his right to troll for his racist thrills.

"Provocative"? I don't see how it is a strange article either.

It's a fair subject to debate, but only on the grounds of the affects of belief on football. But the rules are the rules PLT no religion, even if its a debate on a BBC football article. I would say with reluctance that the thread should be closed but only on those grounds. It will all end in tears if left open.

"Fans are also getting an education in Muslim practices.
When manager Alan Pardew suggested Ba's slow start to the 2011-12 season was due to his fasting, fans picked up on it and marked every subsequent goal with a song celebrating how many goals he had scored since Ramadan, to the tune of Depeche Mode's Just Can't Get Enough.
Children playing football in the parks of Newcastle have even been spotted falling to their knees as if in prayer themselves after scoring a goal.
They may not completely understand what it means, but it's a sign that Muslim practices are becoming a more familiar part of popular British culture."

The tone of this article (alhough I accept it's a softener for the much awaited programme on Islam in football) is a sort of apologist happy-clappy attempt at "Come on you football fans, this great religion is fun- get with the programe!")

I don't pay my licence fee to be preached at in a patronising way by some BBC box-ticker.

My original post was an attempt to point out the surreptitious political agenda of the BBC- not to invite muppets on here to indulge in their usual line slanging match.

I just read it as a mildly interesting article. I didn't get any of that.

If you don't mind me saying, I think you're reading too much into this.

It was 'mildly interesting' -but only in as much as once again the BBC demonstrates how out of step it is with football fans and the country at large.

I wonder if the Muslim players themselves expected things to be arranged so much to suit their cultural and religious needs?

It's clearly in any football club's interest to defend and protect their asset(s), as was seen by LFC's support of Suarez.

It simply wouldn't be written about any other religion.

He's quite capable of posting offensive, and sometimes even racist stuff himself without other people deciding for him that he's being racist when he's just questioning a bizarre article.

I agree if it turns into a religion debate. Hopefully it won't.

The article was only provocative to those who feel provoked when respect is paid to different religions. Why such a thing should be provocative to anyone is beyond me. Anyone else know?
Was anyone disgusted when Gedo bowed to the ground after scoring for us? Is anyone disgusted when Catholic players cross themselves when entering play or scoring?
The OP has an agenda as transparent as water and his constant references to anything vaguely anti-Muslim is typical of the CI septic tank mentality that most decent posters on this board don't seem to have the guts to stand up to.

I'd suggest you're out of step with the majority of football fans, especially seeing as the NUFC fans made light of something you're clearly bothered by.

Oi, me, Mel and Stan are! You too thinking about it. You're right about Aggro too, I don't understand why that isn't obvious to everyone, and why he's allowed a platform for his bile.

There aren't many other religions represented in the Premier League though, maybe when there are a lot of Sikhs, Hindus or Scientologists playing there'll be an article on them.

I can't be arsed to go on with this because I imagine this thread will follow the usual pattern of being closed on "political grounds" when the reasonable majority log on tomorrow morning.

There's nothing wrong with the article, there's nothing strange about it either, it just boils down to the fact that you and Agro don't like Muslims for whatever reason and it's ****ing pathetic.

There is no septic tank mentality on CI, there's a lot of very good posters and a couple of daft ones, just like any other board. In fact, it's generally far more reasoned and grown up than it is on here, which is a shame, as it didn't used to be like that on here.

Muslims aren't a race. Islam is a religion. It is a particularly repulsive religion.

    How's that for an opinion?
